Why do more progressives than moderates seem to come off as “authentic”?

Authenticity in the domain of politics is a very loaded and tricky notion. No politician is allowed to be truly authentic, otherwise they would never get elected and the public would turn on them.

Politics is not a domain for authenticity, honesty, and truth because the entire political system is built on lies, fantasies, and corruption.

Look at cases where politicians accidentally let slip something truly honest. They are crucified for it by their political opponents. You can't be truthful in politics because your political opponents will immediately weaponize it against you to kick you out of power.

So, then how are moderate/establishment Democrats going to be able to fix their messaging problem or win in future elections if they can't sound "too authentic", but at the same time have an authenticity problem, which is a big part of why Harris and the Democrats lost in 2024?

Btw, have you watched this vid from David Pakman on this problem?

That's the tricky balancing act of politics. You have to bullshit the public but do it in a way that they perceive as "authentic". Because if you are really authentic you will not get elected because society is built on lies.

See, Trump mastered the art of spewing pure bullshit but making half the country think he's being authentic. That's why Trump won. The problem with Dems is that their bullshit fails to come across as convincing. Trump got away with it because he told the stupidest half of the populace exactly what their reptile brain wanted to hear.

It is much easier to bullshit people when your bullshit feeds their basest reptile instincts. Then they ignore that it's bullshit.

Yeah because the people he's appealing to people who have considerably less awareness (or sometimes care) about reality.

There has been a growth in awareness, which fuels the cycle. The problem the Democrats have, in a nutshell, is that they are not matching this growth in awareness with their own framing and narratives. Its all relative; there is no endpoint, only a realization that the democrats are behind (or misalgined) with the population's point of view on many issues.

They could quite easily match it, and then just not deliver much, but the corporations donating to them might feel bad that they are, in fact, the villains in the current scenario on many issues. Which doesn't do them any favours PR wise, (or their own psyche) but maybe they need to suck that up for once so the country doesn't keep sliding into fascism.

At the moment, its fascism vs corporatism; they are the two powers in play in American politics, just like it was pre-WW2 for other countries. Until we get the socialist push back, which inevitably happens in some form, the more fascist the planet goes. No matter how much people don't like it, it's the counterbalance to fascism. It's just what happens next. The more it's suppressed, the more violent the realignment is.

This is juvenile. They're legislators,  they work for us, they're not our leaders, they're our representatives in writing and voting for laws, that's it. It isn't a gameshow. Stupid people vote like this; red or blue. If you think blue needs better messaging then get at it, it doesn't require you to be elected for you to speak. Buttigieg is all over the news, not elected, currently not running. When was Charlie Kirk elected?
