I'm surprised the Diary of a CEO dude (don't rate him personally) had Hoffman on - I always assumed he would be a bit unpalatable to the masses.

I came across and watched this earlier today.

He's all about survival blinding us to the truth.

@Natasha Tori Maru Exactly! It was actually quite a pleasant surprise for me too, and the dude does seem decently open-minded and non-judgmental.

They were teaching Dondal Hoffman to us in high school we just had no idea what he was talking about. Still to this day he is not clear.

I find it exhausting that people ignore how anything can exist at all and the immediacy of it, treating it as a given while theorizing about it.

@Leo GuraI dont know if you know but Donald Hoffman is not talking about God he is talking about the human body. He is talking about the first person view of a human being, he is saying that science is measuring the first person perspective of a human and that the first person perspective of a human being is 2 Dimensional. I dont see how you can say its false unless God gave you a revelation into the way a human body is functioning beyond mathematics. How can you say its false when its science/math/psychology based and makes no claims about God or anything metaphysical.

@Hojo He's wrong because his model denies access to truth.

He fundamentally misunderstands what truth is, what perception is, what experience is, what consciousness is.

I mean I could be incorrect with regard to his deeper theory but his premise regarding survival makes some sense:

Perception and attention are such energy intensive tasks, only the organisms that focus on tasks and things that feed survival live to evolve. Organisms that pay attention to the incorrect parts of reality that aren't relevant to survival simply die. This serves to explain why we do not perceive reality as it truly is - but we experience a set of beliefs that operate solely to facilitate survival. Explains why truth seeking conflicts with survival.

I think he may be correct about some things, and not about others.

@Leo Gura His model says truth exists but he makes no claims into what it is. Donald Hoffman says God is real but he says we will never get to experience it because its outside experience and is infinite. His whole study is on  human perception of God.

Yeah, I know. But he is fundamentally wrong that experience is not truth.

Experience is Truth.

Experience is one thing. How you tell it, what narrative the human mind builds around it, is another.

Very, very few people are capable of directly perceiving what is, rather than what they want to see through the lenses of their identity narratives.
