i go to the gym 3-4 times a week, go for walks, listen to music, and embroider.

but relaxation is definitely something i need to prioritise more, although i don't quite know how, tbh. it's probably a more fundamental issue than it seems, as this sense of hypervigilance is deeply related to my mental struggles. there's an underlying anxiety that i always need to be doing something or working on myself, otherwise something bad will happen.

i've been having some sleep issues so now i'm on a prescription for sleeping meds. not sure if this is good, but i figured it would sort of force me into a more regular rhythm, which would be beneficial at the moment.

What do you think is the source of the belief that something bad will happen if you are not constantly busy with something ?

Gym is good, but it also helps to add some kind of freeflow/intuitive type exercise/movement that you can make your own. For example, dancing to music in your apartment, where you allow your body to move intuitively, ie experimenting with movements that feel good/fun to the body is a nice practice. This can be a great way of getting out of the head, connecting with intuition, and relaxing the nervous system.

L-theanine as a supplement also helps for relaxation, but of course do ur own research on that one.

i think it's just a habit or cognitive programming that's hard to get rid of.

i'll try to keep that in mind and dance more often:)

if i have green tea every morning, is that enough or do i need a specific supplement?

I might be wrong, but could it perhaps be a habit that functions like a mechanism that protects you from feeling something you don't want to feel ?

You could test it by doing nothing for an hour or two on purpose, and then see what precisely comes up for you.

I don't know anything about green tea, but I see L-theanine is also good for focus, so it helps with studies etc. The woman in this video gives the dosage that works for her.

i mean probably. that's usually what it boils down to.

question is, what don't i want to feel?

probably fear that i'm not good enough? that something is wrong with me, that i'm not beautiful enough... and, and, and. the usual suspects.

I don't know, but you could contemplate what specific fear comes up with regards to doing nothing for a while without the need to be busy.

That's why I said, test it out, do nothing for 2 or 3 hours on purpose, i mean stop when you need to, but just see if you can have a better look at what the fear is actually about.

One very effective tool you can use is chaining 'tasks' on.

This is what I use to be effective in all walks of life: sit down and plan the next 2 tasks. Chain one after the other.

Perhaps it could be 'sit down to dinner' and then 'take a slow walk for 20 minutes' right after. This might break the overeating habit and give you space to sit with any uncomfortable emotions pushing you to overeat. Additionally - after a meal - it can take up to 30 minutes to fully register being full. Occupying yourself with slow body movement may fill the time, so you can properly feel satiation and satisfaction.

I always walk the dog slowly after meals :)

Deal with the issue now, on your terms, in your control. Or the issue will deal with you, in ways you won't appreciate, and cannot control.

This too shall pass. The mind is very powerful, it can cause actual physical effects like this force to eat. I've felt this before through fear. Fear of something happening that you don't want to happen. Your kid is consumed by fear. Fear of the unknown. Fear of failure and fear of death. But don't panic. Breathe. Try to eat different organic fruits. Chia puddings with frozen fruit. Green smoothies are delicious I don't know if you can lol. Try to self soothe yourself, if you need to talk there are some genuine people here and you can talk to me. We're all here for each other

@Judy2 to help you regulate and balance your emotional space I'd consider finding a community that focuses on breathwork and/or dance. 5 rhythms is an awesome approach to dance which can help you access and move that which is obstructed/suppressed. For most people meditation and talk therapy won't do it for them.
