Fantasy - Intellectual Enlightenment

49 posts in this topic

I was doing a contemplation exercise. All of a sudden, I became aware of a fantasy that I'm holding as true.

I thought that ONE DAY after reading books, doing courses, seminars and watching videos on philosophy, self-actualization or spirituality, I would become "perfect" intelectually.

Can you see it? It is a delusion. There is no such thing as "being perfect" intelectually, emotionally or spiritually.

Perfection is an ideal, a fantasy. You can read whatever you want - you will not KNOW everything.

There is no perfection. I was suffering like a fool for years because it was running on the background of my mind. I always felt behind, weak, dumb.

I feel peace. I feel peace.

Amazing how my mind interrelates all of the insights on this forum..

Like James123 was talking about dhikr//delusion coming from past/future.

Seems to make perfect sense...

And then breakingthewall talks about the danger of lobotomy, and I stop dead in my tracks, only for the Princess to drop the bomb that I don't fucking exist..

What a mindfuck of epic proportions lol

In the past I was meditating and then suddenly I saw how my mind was making up this conceptual worldview of how I’m increasing my awareness and it’s gonna lead to awakening.

It’s not that it isn’t true, it’s just that I saw that it was a mental construct for me, an interpretation of my direct experience

Sure.

There is a notion on self-help/self-actualization circles that you are 1 book, 1 seminar, 1 video, 1 teaching away from PERFECTION.

You just need to meditate more. You just need to read this book on NLP. You just need to do shadow work. You just need to read Albert Camus. You just need to breath this way. You just need to achieve 2nd Tier Spiral Dynamics.

Do you see? You never arrive. You are ALWAYS striving to be perfect. Always desperate. Always lacking. Always imperfect.

Wake up. They are making tons of money running on your illusions.

Perfection is a fantasy.

I do not know. Increasing awareness is not awakening. Awakening is pure cessation of mind, there is no such thing to increase.

There is something to increase when your self is there looking behind your eyes.

I don’t know if it’s true either but I just saw that I held it as a belief in my mind

@CARDOZZO Self acceptance is the way out of this delusion of hedonic treadmill created by self help.

Self-acceptance is important.

Just to be clear, do not use what I said to become passive or lazy. Choose 2 or 3 intellectual domains to become a master. Don't fall into a trap that one day all stars will align themselves to turn yourself on a perfect human being that knows it all.

Sure. Beliefs should be looked for what they really are.

That's interesting because it's true and false simultaneously. From a certain perspective you cannot be perfect cause obviously you are limited . In another sense nothing could exist other than  perfection .

Perfection is an unattainable concept. I understand what you mean. "Perfection" could be real above linguistic/symbolic paradigm.

Perfection in the relative human domain is obviously insanely impossible and actually its obvious as hell and this thread is not needed ( no offence 😂). How do you expect yourself to be a Perfect person In anything you're doing ? If we consider the sheer amount of information available now and the infinite number of variables and choices you have to act on now then the possibility of you acting out Perfect all the time is an utter impossible absurdity . So no need to worry. Everyone will have a bad day. Life beats everyone.

The other perspective is more existential and metaphysical.  Contemplate how could anything occur if its not inevitable?  Inevitable just means Perfect.

Obvious to you.

Perfectionism is obvious when you're aware of it, unconscious perfection can run someone's life. Anyone can nod along to it conceptually when explained to them. Doesn't mean they're free from it. So sorry, your response is not needed (no offense😂).

Hi- Hiii..

I'm tadpole. I am absolute tadpole.

Infinite ponds in all directions. What sound does a tadpole make?

This is the point. There is a difference between knowing x having a direct experience of perfection/perfectionism.

It is a real insight x intellect.

Perfection is much more than what you wrote, it is not simple as that.

Perfection is a fluid, a social consensus.

Your parents teach you to behave like X, this is an ideal of "perfect behavior".

You try to look like Y to society, because you seek a "perfect image" based on what you think is cool/perfect.

The concept of perfection, perfectionism and "becoming perfect" is something much deeper than we think it is.

It runs entire industries (self-help, beauty, universities).

Maybe . I'm happy for him that he has broken out of perfectionist mentality.  Perfectionist mentality is the matrix . Believing you are supposed to be a robot who never makes mistakes ...this is all delusion and brainwashing from society.

Having a job, being married, having kids, cars, being wealth.

This is a perfection ideal.

People strive to meet this social standards. "This is what society should be". This is what humans should look like.

Ideals. Ideals. Ideals.

They are striving to make you look perfect based on social standards, doing "what is right".

None of that is additive. I agree with you . All I'm saying is I've realised this when I was 8 😂.

Like parents who tell their son you gotta either study medicine or engineering in college..you either become a doctor or engineer. That's how you get the cash .that's how you have reputation. That's how you get pussy . That's what should happen...bla bla bla .

A sense of perfection permeates humanity like a mind virus.

It is an engine that perpetuates society.

You are always looking for ways to become more intelectual, spiritual, beautiful, powerful, stronger.

When will you arrive?

You're lucky. I grew up on a tough environment.
