Hes galaxies beyond Ralston.  Galaxies. Ralston doesn't know how to properly bring it to you.

Are you trying to balance out the praise being heaped on Ralston in this thread? lol

Because suffering impulse survival and evolution in complex alive beings. Makes you move far from it. For example inventing vaccines to don't get painful diseases that kills you and all your family

But why do people care so much about what Ralston thinks?

Because he writes about how stop suffering, and that's what people wants. Same than Buddha

don't understand continually wanting to take down Ralston but also resolutely refusing to delve into his work to understand.

It's not talking down, it's analyzing. Read what I wrote and answer if I'm wrong. I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings, it's analysis. He's not a religious figure, is someone who exposes a thesis about the mind and can be analyzed without generating rage.

The problem with this discussion is that the definition of “self” is different for every teacher. Carl Jung, Sigmund Freud, Peter Ralston, Leo Gura, Ken Wilber, psychologists have a different understanding of the word “self”. And when they talk about the subject of “self” they use the same word but they mean something else. But that is a discussion that transcends this forum. Don't expect that level of discussion on this forum.

You could try to explain. I think it's more or less clear what the self is. It's the "me" vs what's not me. The I that can be damaged and must be protected. That includes body and self image . What Ralston and others says that is illusory is the self image, the social self.

But the social self is uncoded by evolution, it's the position of the individual in the group. Monkeys also have it, but not conceptual. This social self is seen as a timeline, and generates suffering. The point of everyone is stop this suffering. So for Ralston the key is dissolving this self.

I know this topic very good by direct experience, then I like to contrast, nothing else.

Has he even read Ralston? He talks of physics but has he read Einstein?

Just understanding relativity theory as deep as I can. Not so simple as it seems.

Definitely no feelings involved - but nice try attempting to imply I am somehow being swayed by feelings.

You aren't analysing. You are being disingenuous. If you like, I can post all the forum history where you staunchly refused to go to the source (which would indicate a more genuine approach to analysing what Ralston is saying, the fact you continually refuse to do so and insist on others translating it is telling enough despite you insisting otherwise). But even this is probably beyond the time I am willing to put into this, because if you are this deluded to your own intentions / motivations it's not going to be worth it in the slightest.

Simply put - you come across as totally inauthentic in your attempt to truly understand because your words do not even slightly match your actions (IE insisting it is "analysing" while simultaneously refusing to go to the source - Ralston's books - to actually critically analyse and grasp, repeatedly). It is beyond reasonable to infer you are settled in your opinion and want to simply have it reinforced or simply prove a point by taking down users interpretations/strawmans of Ralston.

Read his books.

Do the work.

Otherwise this is all for naught.

@Natasha Tori Maru I watched many videos, I can't read books about spirituality because in the moment that I read anything that I see as a mistake, I'm done. Anyway, it's easy to transmit it's paradigm. If you want I could tell mine, then anyone can point my mistakes.

There is infinite insight to experience, infinite puzzle to solve 😂 with that way we can understand our true nature better, comprehend and analyze it 😂

Who understands him? He's contradictory from the videos I watched. Then, how could you dissolve the self according to Ralston? According to him You suffer because you are identifícate with an idea of yourself that you create by social interaction, and that's an illusion. Where is the difference with traditional Buddhism, Eckhart Tolle or many others?

Imo the mistake is that the conceptual idea of yourself in the social interaction is real. It's genetically uncoded and it's the drive that build societies, empires, civilization. It's not the same than direct pain of the body but it's real in its level. You can die due those ideas.

@Breakingthewall the best is that you read his book and contemplate it with AI. That is the only way to understand him. Because AI will correct you. Traditional contemplation without AI doesn’t work. Or you have to hire Ralston to contemplate with him together and he will correct you. But most people don’t have the cognitive skills to auto correct.
