@Puer Aeternus what about curiosity and lust for knowledge?

Don't necessarily think this is of equal importance to all people. Clearly we are here because of it, but people can be very comfortable within their worldview just going through the motions and enjoying that daily life.

The most hard nosed religious fundamentalist also wants to know more than just his religion.

Most hard nosed fundamentalists aren't separating religious studies and other reality. It is the bedrock of their epistemology for understanding everything.

They could learn new things through Google, but ultimately it would be secondary knowledge and thrown out if it conflicted with their sect. Reminds me of the Christian nationalist character Leo posted about on his blog awhile ago. This guy read a small libraries worth of history books, only made him double down on his prior view.

We all have existential questions..there is no escaping typing them in Google and see other's perspectives.

Well, I could crack open my holy book. Ask a religious minister.. maybe I will even Google religious answers to these questions. I am sure these folks have their doubts. But, leaving their belief bubble isn't required, nor inevitable.

Hi- Hiii..

I'm tadpole. I am absolute tadpole.

Infinite ponds in all directions. What sound does a tadpole make?

Why is survival antithetical to gaining knowledge?

They are not antithetical to each other at all, but most people don't need to be broadly knowledgeable so they aren't. Even if its relatively accessible.

There's also something to be said about a lack of education. If people aren't taught to be rational they are less likely to critically think about their beliefs or consider their assumptions. The survival value of their ideology is greater than their intellectual rigor and curiosity.

It is a perspectival shift from reaching towards the sky to deconstructing the necessitating ground that keeps you tethered.

The excuse for ignorance is that it is preferable to growing intelligence and awareness. Both of which lead to greater understanding of the reality and world we live in. This understanding then creates suffering, anxiety and angst in the one that grows to understand. The avoidance of those feelings is why ignorance is so prevalent. Anything to be had that sits behind things like suffering and boredom will be avoided by most people. "Ignorance is bliss".

You have to change when you know better and change means death to a part of you. Examples include: using less AI when you find out how much water is used to cool it, not eating meat when you see the conditions under which the animal is raised etc.

It's difficult. Humans are still very dumb, your not Gona change this. We are good at developing technology but in terms of social intelligence and consciousness...people just believe whatever the media feeds them. From an intelligent perspective, ignorance has no excuse cuz yeah we can just do basic research and we have all information we could ever want or need. The problem is that there is way more misinformation as well. The situation is definitely better than 500 years ago in terms of overall intelligence expansion and increase but the difficulty is that people read loads and loads of shit and constantly think they're informed when really they're still very susceptible dumbassery. You can now access echo chambers of misinformation and conspiracy ideology, now with ai getting to the point where you can barely tell what's real anymore this is a complicating factor.

You have to remember that if your someone who values truth, you may accidentally fall into the trap of underestimating the levels of stupidity that exist in others who don't value truth. Also people who are in immense pain have the water of their mind disturbed so much that they can't see through it with clarity anymore. Pain distorts people's focus.
