You didn't quite answer my question. When has Antifa ever tried to subvert a fair and democratic election? There were concerning elements during the BLM and Antifa protests for sure, but protesting police brutality doesn't equate to storming a capitol building with the intent to hang elected officials and disrupt certifying the election results. Its even more problematic knowing the Trump Administration had an actual plan to deny the votes of millions of Americans in hopes to stay in power.

No. There is nothing natural about the rapid and sudden increase in global average temperatures. It is the result of human activity. If it weren't for our CO2 emissions the planet would be in a state of cooling down since we're still technically in an ice age. Modest and gradual cuts to our emissions back then could have slowed down the rate of warming. Now we are in a predicament where drastic measures have to be taken to reduce our emissions to prevent further warming AND adaptation strategies needs to be adopted.

We're going to have to agree to disagree here. I don't forsee us curtailing climate change within a timeframe necessary to prevent collapse of our global economy. On a global scale, we're barely able to manage COVID-19. How can we as a collective be expected to manage mass migrations, conflicts over resources, and extreme natural calamities all at once? Combating climate change is more than just developing some magical technological solution. It will necessitate global cooperation the likes of which we've never seen. It will require a systemic change to how we live our lives on this planet. For this reason I'm pessimistic. We're simply too unconscious to overcome this challenge within our current paradigm. Humans will survive as a species. And another globalized civilization will emerge eventually. What that civilization will look like is anyones guess but it won't be like anything we're accustomed to.

Climate change isn't just the temperature rising a 'few degrees' . Its all the ramifications that come with temperature rise. This includes water scarcity, droughts, famines, extreme weather, mass migrations etc. These things will happen more frequently and with greater intensity. And it isn't just the calamities brought on by nature we have to worry about, but also the increased likelihood of conflicts as a result. Also the global avg temperature rising a few degrees sounds minuscule but its actually very significant. Earth systems are incredibly resilient but very delicate. More delicate than we realize and we really don't fully appreciate it. Our entire civilization is dependent on a stable climate and we are not prepared for such an extreme shift in such a short frame of time.

I find Paul Beckwith to be an excellent source when it comes to understanding climate change I don't think many people realize just how severe the climate crisis is. We're tracking climate scientists worst case scenario and we technically haven't even reached 1.5C yet.

This is outside the scope of this thread. However, I was doing some contemplation a week ago about the possibility of these crafts being operated by non-human sentient beings. I caught a brief glimpse of what reality might be like from their perspective and was a bit overwhelmed. Maybe it was just the result of my overactive imagination but I came to the conclusion that there are facets of this reality that the human mind simply cannot comprehend. And these beings may have intentions that to us, appear non-sensical. Also if these crafts are indeed being operated by non-human beings it would make sense for them to slowly integrate the idea of their existence into the collective human conscious. Perhaps this why they don't just land on the White House land and give a formal introduction.

What difference does it make? We're pretty close to having an ice free artic. Based on trends I wouldn't be surpised if it happens within the next 5 years or so. Whether it occurs this summer or 5 years from now it really doesn't matter. The tipping point has already been passed and once the ice melts it isn't coming back (at least not within a timeframe that's relevant to homosapiens). Humanity failed to rise to the occasion when it mattered and pretty soon we'll be facing some pretty dire consequences.

Sex is such an uncormfortable topic. It is an intimite activity but it's a natural urge we all have. I feel we often under appreciate the impact sex has on the overall function and health of society. There have been some recent studies that suggest a large portion young men aren't doing it.This will certainly have some profound impacts on society as a whole. Sex (meaning access to sex) is a huge incentive for young men. Part of this dynamic is how we perceive sex. And ones level of access to sex has become an emblem that signifies your social status. But how would we have organized our civilization if sex (particularly access to sex) wasn't used as such a divider between social classes, the powerful and powerless etc? What if it was done with same level of triviality we view a common greeting? What if we viewed it as just another act that doesn't ilicit shame and judgement from others?

It really doesn't trigger me but I really don't see the necessity to always push certain boundaries. It seems so excessive and unnecessary. Its obvious he's trying to salvage his career from being known as just a one hit wonder. There are other avenues he could have taken besides this. Also, I am bit worried how this will look in the eyes of conservatives and the far-right, who already demonize black people. This may sound very ignorant and outdated but minority groups have to be very careful about what image they present to the general public. Not saying it fair or even rational. I get that you're looking at humanity's issue with climate change from a much larger timescale. However, a 1 or 2 degree rise in global average temperatures will absolutely be devasting to human civilization as we know it. Nevermind the fact that once we hit 2 degrees the rate of warming will accelerate exponentially. Yes, Earth will be fine but the structures humanity has built not so much . A rise of 2 degrees in global average temperature will cause food shortages and water scarcity, which will inevitably lead to conflict and the displacement of hundreds of millions of people. And unfortunately those underdeveloped countries (who contributed the least to carbon emissions btw) will bear the full brunt of it. I feel you're speaking from a position of privilege as someone who lives in a highly advanced 1st world country. And honestly I really don't see how 1st world countries will be able to sustain their standard of living while simulataneously spending billions on natural disasters Earth is resilient but the way we as humans have structured our civilization is not. A new system will have emerge but at the expense of hundreds of millions of lives. There are reasons to be concerned. I don't think we should panic but we certainly should approach this issue nonchalantly. The Green in me is really showing in this post

Anyone whose done any extensive research on climate change knows the global south is going to bear the brunt of climate change most harshly. Since we're tracking the worst case scenarios of many climate models, I really don't see how there won't be massive famines, droughts, civil conflict and ultimately death. And unfortunately the global south has historically contributed the least to climate change. This leads me to a question that I've been wondering about sometime. How should the West be held accountable for their collective negligence? Should the West have to pay for and invest in infrastructure that'll prepare the global south for the worst of climate change? Will the West ultimately collapse from its own karma when their countries are beseiged by hundreds of millions of climate refugees? Do you think resentment and rage for the West will only grow over time when people of the global south realize just how much they've been shafted? Will this resentment and rage be justified?

I think its fair but I can't imagine it going very well with citizens in western countries. They can barely acknowledge all the suffering their governments have imposed over the course of the past 500 years.
