What I like about Prisoners is that there is no comedic relief. It's pure tragedy. Outstanding performance by Hugh Jackman.

"The secret to the movie business, or any business, is to get a good education in a subject besides film - whether it's history, psychology, economics, or architecture - so you have something to make a movie about. All the skill in the world isn't going to help you unless you have something to say." - George Lucas "It’s more important you learn what to make movies about than how to make movies." - J.J. Abrams

The finale is amazing. Great drama, very poetic, lots of parallels.

I found a website called The Great Courses. But I don't know if those courses are actually great. MasterClass, for example, looks great, but it's not great at all.

I'll miss this show. The quality of writing, directing, and acting is very high. It's probably the best show that was made after the Golden Age of Television. According to Wikipedia, the Golden Age of TV is still ongoing, but I disagree. I think it lasted for only ten years.

The Grapes of Wrath is Steinbeck's most notable work, but I liked East of Eden more: Of Mice and Men is also amazing. I want to read these books next: To Kill a Mockingbird The Great Gatsby Jane Eyre Frankenstein Dracula One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest Buddenbrooks The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn Great Expectations Catch-22 The Catcher in the Rye Crime and Punishment Ulysses The Brothers Karamazov War and Peace Animal Farm The Picture of Dorian Gray

The Mystical Man replied to Holykael's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
It's important to make a distinction between ego and God. Ego is the confused part of God. -

God is indeed not loving. It's infantile to think of God as either loving or cruel. The reality is that all hells are created by the ego out of ignorance. The ego is the source of all suffering, not God. For God just is. Within this infinite isness, it's up to you to create a good life. You're projecting the insanity of the ego on God. -

I've struggled a lot with this, and I'm still struggling with this. I cringe everyday. Cringe is a physiological and emotional response to foolishness, inauthenticity, and falsehood. You cringe at how out of sync you were with reality. I think the key is self-compassion. Treat yourself with dignity. You didn't know any better. Adyashanti always says, "Treat yourself like someone you care about."

I don't think I've ever listened to this: It's good.

The Mystical Man replied to Panteranegra's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
A certain degree of suffering is inevitable; however, from eternity's point of view it's totally worth it, for if maya didn't exist, all the beautiful aspects of life wouldn't exist either. Therefore: Maya is the miracle of life. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son." -

You don't have to appreciate difficult moments while they're happening. However, you can fondly look back at challenging phases. "Most important things in life are a hassle. If life's hassles disappeared, you'd want them back." - Hayao Miyazaki There is an eternity of peace. So why not play the temporary game of maya? -
I think a life purpose could be inspired by sexuality, but I doubt it'd manifest as pornography or prostitution. Adyashanti sometimes asks students to teach: Myoku focuses on sacred sexuality.

Dr. Hawkins wrote powerful paragraphs on the nature of reality. These are some of my favorite books of his: Discovery of the Presence of God The Eye of the I I: Reality and Subjectivity Actually, I love all of his books, except "Reality, Spirituality and Modern Man". I think he wrote that one for more scientifically minded people. It's still good, though. I second the Jed McKenna recommendation. I like the Jed Talks, too, but I wouldn't start with those. -
I think how you experience a psychedelic session depends heavily on the developmental stage of the psyche and level of consciousness. The same is true of life itself. When you do this work long enough, you stop experiencing yourself, life, others, and God in the way most people experience these things. I doubt I would encounter entities on DMT. My hope is that DMT will take me to pure consciousness. I used to think that visuals are profound, but, as it turns out, there's nothing more profound than the immaculate source of existence.

I've decided to delay a big DMT experience, possibly until next year, because there is no need to rush. I don't want to create a negative experience from which I might need to recover for four years: I think I need a more mature psyche. In the meantime, I will learn more about DMT: I'm also reading the book: DMT: The Spirit Molecule. Maybe I should try mushrooms before I try DMT?

It's difficult, if not impossible, to come up with specific metrics, but certain artworks are simply more reflective of the beauty, sacredness, and intelligence of God than others. For example, Dr. Hawkins calibrated Arvo Pärt at 700. Even if you don't agree with Hawkins's calibrations, I think this is still an interesting list. I think the beauty of an artwork depends on the level of consciousness of the creator: "Study reveals that saintliness is a descriptive term applied to people who have reached, usually, [... ] the high 500s. At this level joy leads many to become spiritual and inspirational teachers, healers, great artists, or even great architects who create the great cathedrals, great inspirational music, and the production of beauty in all its forms." - Dr. Hawkins

I used to think that way. I fell into the trap of thinking that I mustn't waste my time with consuming stuff. I desperately wanted to be a creator, not a consumer. It took me a while until I realized that I can't create anything good if I don't even know what "good" means, if I don't even know what already exists. How do you want to write a great screenplay, if you've never even watched the greatest movies of all time? George Lucas didn't create Star Wars out of thin air. This is from Lucas's biography: "For nearly three years he would agonize over plots and characters, plumbing science fiction novels, folklore, comic books, and movies for inspiration." How did Campbell write a book like The Hero with a Thousand Faces? First, he read a ton of books. Therefore, step one and two cannot be skipped, if the intention is to create something significant. This is not about becoming a consumer. It's about refining your taste: "The more you read superior writers and watch excellent films, screen series, and theatre, the more you widen and deepen your taste." - Robert McKee

I've tried AL-LAD, 1P-LSD, 1cP-LSD, and 1V-LSD. In my experience, they all have unique qualities. 1V-LSD has a slow come up. With 1cP-LSD I remember feeling the effects after half an hour. With 1V-LSD it takes longer than an hour. While the onset can be gentle, the peak is quite intense. Therefore, if you're totally new to psychedelics, I wouldn't recommend that you start with 150ug. Maybe start with 75ug. The two things that have helped me during psychedelic sessions the most are these two pieces of advice: Terence McKenna said that when it gets hairy sit up and sing. And Dr. Hawkins said that all fear is illusion. Singing and the knowingness that all fear is illusion have helped me during my most intense psychedelic experiences.
