Reading summaries can actually be very effective

5 posts in this topic

Instead of reading a whole ass book, you can just find very good summaries on books. It is like seeking for gold, you have to seek and you will find. The key is to read multiple summaries.

1. It will save time

2. You will get multi perspective view if you read multiple summaries back to back

3. Make your own summaries compare it to similar books with saved time

Especially if it is a topic you are familiar with it is ok to read summaries from my experience. It is an art to find good summaries though.

Summaries like these are gold: 3 pages long, and all for free!

In my eyes summaries are likes maps of consciousness, you can compare different kind of maps and stitch your own map. And if you find it really interesting actually go balls deep and read the actual book if it is interesting. No need to waste time.

the best stuff is last: the last 10 pages, the last 10 minutes of the vid, the last 10 mins of the soccer game ... this is when the important stuff happens and is all you need

decide how much time x in minutes something is worth to you and commit to the last x minutes

x gets smaller as you age, you haven't time to lose

of course when you become a fan, enjoy and watch all ... the above is a way to effectively take charge of your media consumption

Great find.

Summaries are also great for books with shit and obtuse writing but that still contain some interesting nuggets of wisdom, like the Hero with Many Faces or 12 Rules for Life (academics can't write).

@gettoefl time is most precious thing that human has. When your time is up the secondaries don't matter.
