Loch Kelly Effortless Mindfulness AMA

7 posts in this topic

Hey,

If anyone follows Loch Kelly's teachings on Effortless Mindfulness and isn't quite sure if they are understanding it, I think I can give you pointers.

I recently really grasped the practice, and I know it can be tough to grasp, and for some of us we oscilate between really getting it and not fully understanding what's being pointed at

Nice.

In your understanding, how is his effortless mindfulness approach different than the do nothing technique?

I think they are the exact same. Effortless mindfulness requires 0 effort when done right, awareness is present with 0 effort, so when you're doing nothing awareness will still shine through.

I think there's more beyond just doing nothing and practicing basic effortless mindfulness. Like loch kelly has a talk about how to integrate emotions, I think that kind of stuff is essential to integrate with these practices.

Also effortless mindfulness on psychidelics is way more profound. It's like effortless mindfulness is the foundation, but psychidelics give your body the energy to really have profound insight into why you suffer

What about concentration? I like loch's work, but he puts no emphasis on concentration.

How much effort is required to be aware of your own experience?

Awareness is the ground of reality and require 0 concentration or effort to be aware.

Concentration is a natural byproduct of the technique, rather than something that needs to be cultivated

@Consilience An update on my understanding.

My understanding of the practice is not complete. I think for some people there are mental resistances that prevent full access to SELF and so the technique isn't fully affective.

In hindsite I think I've accessed what Loch is talking about a few times on psychidelics, and so whatever I was accessing sober was not the full practice.

I'm doing IFS therapy now and I think this will bridge the gap in my understanding.

The logic is there are parts of our mind that prevent us from fully accessing the self, and we need to understand and develop compassion for different key parts of our mind

I tried it but hasn't worked.  He kinda says just "unhook" local awareness but it's not clear how that's supposed to happen.

''I am surrounded by priests who repeat incessantly that their kingdom is not of this world, and yet they lay their hands on everything they can get'' (NapoleonBonaparte).

"We control matter because we control the mind. Reality is inside the skull. You will learn by degrees, Winston. There is nothing that we could not do. Invisibility, levitation—anything. I could float off this floor like a soap bubble if I wish to. I do not wish to, because the Party does not wish it. You must get rid of those nineteenth-century ideas about the laws of Nature. We make the laws of Nature." (1984)
