WNBA star Britney Griner arrested in Russia on drug charges

9 posts in this topic

I have mixed feelings, thoughts and opinions about this.

Couldn't she buy weed at Russia's black market? I bet she could.

How can someone gamble with their life like this?

It's Russia ffs!

I don't think we'll hear from her in the next 5 years. Her life was good: Health, money, love and fame. What a stupid law to make a plant illegal.

Really stupid of that girl to carry that stuff in your luggage, especially to Russia in 2022. What was she thinking? She probably wasn't.

But yeah, it's usually stupid stuff like this that can escalate tense geopolitical relations between countries, in this instance Russia and the US.

But why the fuck were they in Russia in the first place? Most global and national sports organizations have banned and are boycotting Russia from all competitions. I guess the WNBA hasn't?

It's a chain of stupidity

Weed is addictive, look at what she did. If weed was not addictive she wouldn't have done that. She gambled with her freedom in order to keep getting high. Bad life decision.

She's been playing for a Russian team for 8 years. Making $1M per season.

This is not gamble, recklessness.

Shit goes deep look:

''But Griner's Russian team may have its own issues with American media attention. UMMC Ekaterinburg is owned by Uzbek-born businessman Iskander Makhmudov. Makhmudov has been named as one of the oligarchs with ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin within the Putin Accountability Act that is being considered by Congress.

Late last month, ESPN reported that several WNBA players who play in Russia were planning to leave because of the Ukraine invasion, noting that some normally stay as late as April or early May before returning to their WNBA jobs.''

Apparently she was fucking leaving. Why would a millionaire carry cartridges from Russia to the USA. Makes even less sense.

We don't even know if she was coming or going...

It could be Russia building itself a new definition for national identity.  So these kind of acts are justifable and leaves a good impression on citizens, who are not able of critical thinking. It strengths the bond between ordinary citizen and government. This kind of acts aims stereotype human beings. No diverse opinion. Which will ultimately lead to single knowledge source. Which has all the answers.

She's especially going to have a hard time there. Doesn't really help that she's black, and given Russia as a whole in general is not a great place for black people or any POCs, she's going to go through a living hell being in prison there.
