Life Purpose Advice: Give Me Ideas Pls :(

7 posts in this topic

So I've come to realize that my domain of mastery is Self-Development. I do define Self-Development rather broadly. Integrating many fields such as philosophy, psychology, nutrition, science, mysticism, etcetera. They all come together to initiate the Human(self)(ego) development process.

My question is, what can you become by mastering self-development other than a self-help guru?

The self-appointed, self-help gurus, who self-proclaim all manner of dubious and fantastical claims have run amock. The industry is extremely saturated. The material that circulates from the self-help subcultures is shockingly trite. Nothing more than recycled and regurgitated adages, masquerading as the pinnacle of wisdom and the highest source of truth by the avant-garde themselves. The industry is rife with unethical behavior.

The self-industry has existed for hundreds of years, I'm under no illusion that it will dissipate and crumble anytime soon. We are living in times where distrust in authority and academia is at an all-time high, so the demand for it will most likely increase

However,

  • The lack of integrity in those in the industry seriously turns me off
  • Its lack of originality makes me suspect that something new is needed.
  • The self-help industry far from being the antitheses of academia, has become the other side of the same coin of the ideas industry. Instead of dogmatic, close-minded scholastic pedagogy, they have become unscholarly, irrational, dogmatic anti-academics. I do not want to be part of bullshit "education" (school/university/cheesy self help content)
  • I do not know if this is relevant. But I live in the middle east where stage blue\orange self help material is the only one the people are interested in (I am green/yellow).

Thank you.

Becoming is, and becoming is being. What does the Heart ache to create, and therefore be? Verbalize the impact statement, and verbalize your life purpose, and, more importantly, feel it becoming itself. Do not look for multiple options of becoming, for it signals uncertainty about your mission, and it will leave you frayed, scattered, 'just one graze short of'. There is only one true becoming, and it is your life purpose, so choose it, and it alone. Once the true-to-heart path has emerged, the medium to take, the career to pursue, will be clear.

Is there a particular facet you love & could delve deeper in to help people?

for example if you loved nutrition or sports, you could delve deep into that area & then coach in that area & help people grow in that area. I think general “Self-Help” is quite saturated, but if you specialise you could stand out- maybe check Leo’s 65+ sub fields of self help video :)

If this is true, then opportunity is ripe for self-help teachers who buck all those negative trends ;)

  • The lack of integrity in those in the industry seriously turns me off

So then be ethical.

  • Its lack of originality makes me suspect that something new is needed.

So add something new.

So invent something better.

So be a leader in the Middle East, or move elsewhere.

For someone who's supposed to be so masterful in self-development you sure make a lot of negative excuses ;)

When you love a field deeply enough, you shouldn't care what bad work others are doing, you should throw yourself into it fully and lead the world with your amazing, revolutionary work.

Do you see great filmmakers complaining about all the crappy movies that are made? And that's the reason he can't enter the field of film-making? No! He's too passionate about making his own great movies to give a fuck about that.

If everyone is doing it so poor, why don't you show them how it should be done?

You're right man. My #1 limiting belief is precisely this. That people and the industry at large won't accept what I have to offer.

So, finding an answer to this is itself part of self-development.

Hmmm yes you're right
