Are depression and suicidal thoughts always recurrent?

3 posts in this topic

They always say the relapse rate is high, and it sort of becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

some people have major relapses in depression every 2/3/5 years, and it only takes one successful attempt of suicide to actually remove your existence...

No they're not. Especially the way you would feel of such a thing can change. Then, if you don't care about such a thought appearing, it won't matter to you all that much. It won't depress you at all etc. Mental health can be a struggle for a long time, it is a major component of life after all. But thinking about dying probably changes.

@clouffy  Do not buy into those statistics that you stated. If you believe that, you are limiting yourself and you are right, it can become a self fulfilling prophecy. I bought into that at one time.  There are ways to get out of depressive cycles.
