Get a ticking clock.

Inhale for 4 seconds, exhale for 4 seconds. For each inhale, increase your counter by 1, For each exchale, increase your counter by 1, so that after each cycle you get 2 increments. Count up to 600. The first hundred will be hard, then it will flow.

EDIT: For brief demonstration:

You inhale for 4 seconds, 1

You exhale for 4 seconds, 2

You inhale for 4 seconds, 3

You exhale for 4 seconds, 4

..

..

You inhale for 4 seconds, 559

You exhale for 4 seconds, 600

You're done.

Hark ye yet again — the little lower layer. All visible objects, man, are but as pasteboard masks. But in each event — in the living act, the undoubted deed — there, some unknown but still reasoning thing puts forth the mouldings of its features from behind the unreasoning mask. If man will strike, strike through the mask! How can the prisoner reach outside except by thrusting through the wall? To me, the white whale is that wall, shoved near to me. Sometimes I think there's naught beyond. But 'tis enough.

Don't clock it, only if you want to do magick or psychic stuff.

Start by letting go of the breath (this is the famous let go) until you empty the lungs and let the panic of the body do the inhalation. Just focus on Nirvana/exhalation of breath. In time the lung capacity will skyrocket.

In my current state to give you an example after years of practice, is usually do 3-5 deep breaths a minute in a totally relaxed body on sitting.
