LP Research - 3 Quick Questions

9 posts in this topic

Hello folks

I know we have a lot of regular meditators on the forum, so I've come to do some research for my business, which will be a meditation teaching business here in the UK :)

It would be very helpful if you could answer some quick questions for me. These questions are related to the motivations people have for meditating. I want to be able to offer a variety of courses that target different people's needs.

Questions:

1) What was your age when you began meditating?

2) What were your top 3 original motivations for beginning this practice?

3) What are your top 3 current motivations for continuing this practice?

Thank you for your help.

@RossE
I seriously started meditation at the age of 19.

The main motives were depressions, suffering and problems with sleeping.

My current motivations are truth, love and beauty, meditation unveils the truth, makes you see the beauty of everything around you and makes you capable of true love at some point.

2) What were your top 3 original motivations for beginning this practice?

  1. Watching Leo's videos, starting PD work.
  2. Before becoming a regular meditator, I did Zazen. It was complicated with alot of rules to keep in mind, it was horrible. After discovering the Do Nothing technique, I found it an enjoyable experience and I wanted to do it more and more.
  3. Wanting to try out something new and life transforming.

3) What are your top 3 current motivations for continuing this practice?

  1. Recognizing that it builds consciousness, which by default improves your life (I realized this after like 6 months of practice, not sure if this should be a reason why a beginner meditator wants to do meditation). That's why I am trying to develop a morning meditation habit - it makes the quality of your day skyrocket.
  2. Almost all techniques generate insights for me.
  3. There are so many techniques to try and experiment with. Even doing it without a technique which ends up generating a technique by itself. :D

The best of luck!
