What Does Not Count As Meditation.

Today I tried mantra meditation.

I chanted this for maybe 15-20 minutes whilst listening to the song/orchestral piece at a moderate volume.

Standing still as they charge
We will hold our ground
Not back down
We will raise our swords
From the ground
And we will fight the war to end
All the suffering, never fearing
Heroes, foes, or the daring
And their cause to the gods we pray
Never waive, time has come for us
To take charge and fight the power

Standing still as they charge
We will hold our ground
Not back down
We will raise our swords
From the ground
And we will fight the war to end
All the suffering, never fearing
Heroes, foes, or the daring
And their cause to the gods we pray
Never waive, time has come for us
Disobey and fight the power

As more time passed the words gave less meaning and started to just sound like abstract sounds coming out of my mouth.

I also meditated while listening to music for 30 minutes.

The music was Dark Souls Firelink Shrine OST

and Dark souls 2 Majula OST.

Are these both valid forms of meditation?

@Lorcan You could invent your own techniques, but also watch out because you don't really know how effective they will be. You might end up wasting a lot of your time reinventing the wheel.

Classic spiritual practices have generally been refined and evolved over hundreds of years to be highly effective. So you'd be safer choosing one from the many orthodox method available.

I would avoid music. You're overstimulated as it is if you know what Dark Souls is ;)

You are God. You are Truth. You are Love. You are Infinity.

The easiest and one of the most effective meditation is awareness of the breath, eyes closed or open.
There is a reason why Zen mainly use this meditation technique all over the world, it's easy and very effective if you don't expect anything and don't try to control the breath.

An another that is extremely easy and effective (in nature or in the train/metro), is to just listen to sound around you eyes closed.
This is the meditation that got me to a thoughtless state for weeks, I have no clue where I heard of it, can't even find it on google xD

God is love

Whoever lives in love lives in God

And God in them

The best meditation is no-manipulation meditation.

Eckhart Tolle recommends listening to from where sounds arise and where they disappear in 'The Power of Now'. So maybe that's the answer, if you have read it.
