Government run dating app

I like this idea because the incentives are more aligned. Commercial dating services have to be run like gambling services when user growth plateaus, where the anticipation of reward keeps you going for a low chance of actual reward. If they actually where effective at hooking you up they would lose customers.

Government run services don't have to be profitable. They can be run for the public good alone. It goes to show that certain kinds of service are incompatible with business, which matchmaking is in my opinion.

Singapore has rolled out a matchmaking service for its government workers, an initiative that comes as the country wrestles with a record-low fertility rate.

FirstDate, which launched this week for those aged 21 to 35, boasts "a different approach to dating", where it uses a Nobel-winning algorithm to match participants to one date at a time. "Swipe fatigue ends here," its website reads.

Haha that’s a nice initiative. They should focus on making life less difficult and stressful and they will see an increase of social interaction and thus more babies.

I actually think it’s an excellent idea.

One of the main reasons dating apps can suck is that they’re unregulated, do funky shit with their algorithms, and have really annoying / impossible appeal processes for unjustified bans.

The main flaw is that the govt sucks at doing stuff like this well, so I’m not sure I’d trust them to execute on it. You also have the issue that marketing it would be hard because it’s inherently difficult to advertise a dating app run by the govt to people

The next best thing is strict regulation on private dating apps. Make their algorithms require transparency, enforce fair prices, ensure appeals for bans are dealt with appropriately
