Ageless critique of instutions from the bible

Pharisees disliked Jesus because he undermined their institutional authority over religious law. A revered cult leader criticizes them for valuing the formality of scripture over the actual essence it is supposed to point to. In this context, valuing the formalization of scripture and biblical law over the essence and spirituality they are supposed to cultivate, which they didn't even embody ("may the first one without sin throw the stone at her")

To the pharisees, religion was predominately a survival strategy to gain status and power. Much of this critique rings true of academia in the modern world, which tend to value accreditation over truth. Invariably, institutions become political entities, and their survival takes precedent over their proclaimed mission, often twisting it. Like, if your mission is truth, by prioritizing survival you must reject truth whenever it's unconducive to survival. I wonder if humanity can ever solve this problem entirely when it comes to their institutions?

The pharisees and others worked with the Romans to have Jesus killed because he threatened to destabilize their power. It's quiet the hypocrisy from men of the cloth.

Nah. It is not hypocrisy, it is true to form. "Men of the cloth" have always been wolves in sheeps clothing.

Organized religion has always been corrupt. Even in Jesus' time.

Who else but a man of God or close to God is better to actively seek to end the corruption of the world?

I think in your version of spirituality the ideal spiritual human stays away from everything completely not entering or intervening with the world at all.

This not intervening with the world at all is what I like for myself as well but I don't think for someone who has got the will or even mission to do it like Jesus to save people from corruption and corrupt politicians it's a mistake, on the contrary I think it's necessary.

To be fair to the big J, he was a prominent cult leader and they did come to him for advice, like with that story of the whoring woman who they wanted to execute. It be like if the CIA asked for you opinion on invading Iraq and everyone cared. He would either have to be their mouth piece and lie to himself or roll with the consequences.
