You can have some positive feelings towards someone while questioning their life choices. Beta Infantry will not accomplish much in life and probably get killed in the process and kill other people and possibly innocent civilians. It's not exactly a stellar career choice. 

@Yimpa 3 + 4 +1 is only 8. You need to increase your standards and add at least a 2 to your polycule to be dating a 10!

No a national guard and border patrol fulfill functionally different role than an army infantry in a country's protection. 

Offensive and defensive warfare I think should be understood differently if we're gonna talk about what is noble and what is foolish in terms of joined the armed forces of your nation.

Sure but joining in times of conflict to protect your people and joining the armed forces because you don't have another career choice or want the perks it comes with and making your life purpose being an armed man that solves problems with lethal force is not a moral way to live your life in my opinion. You can make money and contribute to your community and country in other ways.
