O'Conner brings up two good points here. 

1 we feel emotional about our logical conclusions

2 actions don't have truth value, since propositions are actions, can they have truth value?

Logic, especially mathematics, or an analogy from these in the medium of writing, seems to be the key influence for the rationalist paradigm.
