America is now the nepo society

3 posts in this topic

Why is America such a mess right now?

Because the new generation was born into success and first world life conditions. Very low survival pressure diminishes the need for adaptation and innovation. America now takes its success for granted while the population have a fraction of the skills and thoughtfulness that made the success possible in the first place. Narcissism blinds America into false equivalence between being born into something and earning it. Americans think they earned the wealth by virtue of being Americans. Self-entitlement creeps in where there’s a lack of survival pressure coupled with above average financial means.

What else?

It's also the bastion of innovation. If you want to empower yourself and your community then american ideas and resources are still world class. Starting with entrepreneurship and AI. I see a lot of people on this forum complaining about the state of the world and it's trajectory and very little about what you're personally doing to improve it for yourself and others.

New generation afraid to live and would rather find risk free ways to engage with life. They crave certainty in service of anxiety and existential relief. Some AI to be spectators of life instead of willingly engaging. Health anxiety, biohacking and optimisation, looks obsession, all can be copes to try to control lives that are perceived as lacking control due to external structures.

And who can blame them? They are exposed to things they should never be, at too early an age, setting the stage of nihilism at the state of the world. They are navigating a world previous generations never could have imagined.

Meaning is created less from certainty, and more from voluntary confrontation with limitation. And this needs to happen more. We need to encourage it.

It is far easier to fool someone, than to convince them they have been fooled.
