Life Purpose Course - instruction unclear to me

4 posts in this topic

Sorry, maybe I´m stupid, but I am really, really struggling with this and it prevents me from moving on with the course.

Values Assessment - Pass  05 (Value Definitions):

my question n.1:
definition that I am asked to come up with as a result is supposed to be my definition of the word - or my definition of embodying it? Example: is it what the word nature means to me or what embodying the value of nature means to me?

my question n.2:
The 3 questions that are supposed to help me figure out this definition - 1st of these questions is actually the same as coming up with the definition itself already, so I really, really do not understand.

my question n.3:
again, the 3 questions that are supposed to help me figure out the definition, question 2 and question 3 are identical to me, what is the difference?

my question n.4:
I am asked to be specific. Does that apply only to the 3 helping questions or also for the final definition itself? If it applies for the definition itself, I do not quite understand. Definitions of abstract words are usually broad and abstract, not specific. I mean examples can be specific, but not definitions. If my definition contains examples, it will be longer than 15 words!

my question n.5:
So am I supposed to first answer the 3 helping questions, and then forget those (that was just a warm-up?) and move on to coming up with the definition? OR should the definition contain all I came up with in the helping questions? - but then it will be very long.

Also - If I have more problems with instructions, where can I ask questions without worrying about the copyright?

Don´t get me wrong, this is not to criticise the course. Not at all. I am exciting that I am doing it. I am very grateful that I have it. I bought it years ago and didn´t finish back then. Now I´m doing it over again. I really, really care about getting through the course. I see the value of it. And I am not someone who can easily afford it financially but I did.

@Leo Gura maybe you can help me?  I am sorry, maybe I am just stupid. I really tried, I re-watched the instructions more times. And also, I am very grateful for the course. And excited.

As i was using Leo's framework for values in my toolkit as a coach for 7 years, i think i can help you out with that:

You're supposed to come up with defenition of the Value. In ideal situation it'd be a mix of meaning and embodyment. What also helps is to make a "dirty" defenition in which you are not focused on the sice and then, after you have it, make it more clean and concize. The main goal is to have a proper and clear subjective defenition of the Value - what it meand for + how it looks like.

Quote

Example #1:

Value: Intelligence and Holistic Thinking

Defenition: Strategist/Magician/Stage Yellow. Self-Actualization stage of development, systemic and holistic thinking, big-picture perspective, understanding of deep and complex interconnections, ability to get to the heart of matters, exploration of new perspectives, flexibility and openness, multidisciplinary and multi-perspective approach, understanding of paradoxes, ability to find and create effective, creative solutions, solve complex problems, high-level abstract thinking, relativism and the ability to distinguish “partial truth” from Truth, deep understanding of Spiral Dynamics and EDT, being a “Spiral Magician.”

Example #2:

Value: Connection / Empathy

Defenition: This value means forming deep connections with people and focusing my attention on their thoughts and feelings. I constantly embody this value when I interact with people and try to read their mood, the motivation behind their actions, and their train of thought. With close friends and family, this feeling is stronger when I sense that they appreciate our interactions and want to spend more time with me.

Example #3:

Defenition: Humor, Lightheartedness, and Relaxedness

The ability to always see the bright side. The ability to be relaxed and uninhibited, freedom, the ability to laugh and have fun, as well as to make others laugh and have fun, to help them let loose, to push the boundaries of what is possible, to charm, to put people at ease, to talk easily about complex topics, to cheer people up, and to lift their spirits.

I've discovered that it helps when you start from just writining down concrete examples of the value and then separatly writing down meaning of that value for you. After that you can summarize it into conzise and concrete full of examples defenition. It also helps if you describe your feelings about that value and how realisation of it make you feel. If you'll add this to you defenition it'll be even more reach:

1. Concrete Exapmles/Embodyment

2. What it means for me? Why it's meaningful?

3. How this value makes me feel? How i feel when i'm realising it?

The mix it together.

Your goal is to have clear enough description of your value, don't be to perfectionistic about it and be as honest as you can. It should be just enough so you can move forward. You always can refine it later. The biggest problem of that work is to get stuck somewhere on the way
