Prejudice against handicapped people existed back then too.  Remember this was the time that the Nazis were euthanizing people with physical disabilities.  The normal route for someone who was death and blind was to die in a sanitarium.   The only thing wrong with Helen Keller was that her external senses didn’t work but she still had a fully functioning brain. She was fully human and the brain is remarkably adaptable and can compensate for lack of senses.  Anne Sullivan was a brilliant teacher who had the compassion to connect Keller with the world.  She wasn't less human because she didn't have sight and hearing.  This was an advance of civilization which is why it was recognized by the great men of that day – presidents, scientists, authors, and inventors.   It takes compassion to have real intelligence.  Psychedelics doesn’t give you that.
