How to get serious about something?

2 posts in this topic

So I have a problem and in order to solve it I have to get serious about it. What are the steps? What is the ABC? It seems like seriousness comes from fear. When you fear something you naturally and truly become serious. Is there another way?  Like if you love something you also become serious about it. But I dont have that either. In other words I love the problem more than a solution but it has to be done. How do I go about this?

Well, you'll have to look into your actions, what are the motives? why you do what you do? Mostly we have superficial reasons that we tell ourselves as stories. And usually we stick with stories that we like and repeat them until they stop working, That's what happens when you are not motivated enough for something and with time you figure out another story that can keep you moving. Usually these stories take the form a stick or carrot, rather a bit of both.

Happy people have more carrots then sticks and vice versa.

But actual motives are not these stories. Once we understand those motives, then it gets simpler to act as needed. But until we do that, you need some kind of a goal (carrot) or a serious problem(stick) to keep you moving.

Since you have a problem motivating you i would recommend that you add a goal around it something positive that you like, that can motivate you. Secondly don't assume that goal with take care of itself, whenever you feel like lagging behind you have to decide again that you want this goal or this problem solved. It's like taking same decision again and again until it isn't needed and becomes a habit.

All the best!
