My opinion outside looking in:

Social media is going to be viewed as absolutely lame soon.  Dead internet theory — how it’s just a few normal people in comparison and the majority being bots/posters from Russia, China, India etc to cause division and fake engagement/ragebait.

When this happens, it will absolutely change the monetization aspect of social media (making money YouTube, TikTok, etc) which will cause even more people to abandon this paradigm.  I think the current streaming sites (Twitch, Kick, Rumble etc) will survive this in the mean time, since they aren’t bite sized posts to get engagement, because they are mostly being live on camera in the moment.

Edit:  I also think the AI bubble will pop before all is this happens btw.  When everyone figures out it’s absolutely vaporware and it’s just a glorified search engine and a way to make silly pictures and videos — shit will hit the fan.

Its a far more advanced and addictive drug than tobacco my friend hehehehe and its not new, its been going on for a long time.

On the bright side, some countries are applying new laws and some already have that limits children under certain ages to use social media.

You said it yourself, "there's a growing awareness" The Key word here is Awareness. As Awareness rises, so do solutions.

Social media is too integrated with people's technology use to quit outright.

But maybe we'll see more awareness of how hollow and addicting short-form content is specifically.

Ya Hank Green and Alex O'Conner were talking about the exact same thing on the latest cosmicskeptic interview.

Great talk worth a listen.

We need a forum platform that has video chat rooms for each thread. A live chat, and then for delayed discussion little video replies instead of comments. More social, social media.

I think it's worse because it can alter your entire belief structure.

Also destroys your attention abilities which is essential for developing serious understanding.

Tobacco is no where near as dangerous.
