Why you have spiritual ego, why you're religious and a conformist and that's ok

6 posts in this topic

You desire to know, to awaken, to know the truth, to eliminate suffering, etc. You're in your ego and adopt the identity of pursuing these things. That's ok.

You adopt practices, follow traditions, engage in communities, plan retreats, exchange ideas and experiences, learn frameworks and doctrines. You're religious. That's ok.

You conform to your community, you trust in its legitimacy, you follow the teachers, you rank some teachers over others, you prefer some teachers over others, you take on their ideas through faith, what they're saying might be true.

You're not currently awake (some of you) or enlightened (most of you), but yet you're setting your sights towards these things. You're a self-described spiritual person with a plan for themselves, you're engaging in religious traditions and communities, and you conform. That's ok.

Accept what is true, deny it less, and you'll have less blindspots, less self-deception, less bias. What you deny becomes unconscious, and what becomes unconscious rules you without you being aware.

I agree.

Ultimately there's no way around conformity, you will always conform in some level; it is only a question of degrees of conformity. For the work most here are engaged is better to be less conformist than most people in society, but, it is a fantasy to think you will ever escape conformity.

Even our desires and bias towards non-conformity is a product of the western world and the greek heritage. No one here is original(not even Leo) to teach non-conformity -- its just a product of culture and the greeks. We in the west value individuality above all: everyone for themselves, pull yourself by your own bootstraps, etc etc. But see, this is conformity!!! You are conforming to individuality and pedestalizing this over collectivism.

@Eskilon You know it's a good topic when nobody answers 😆

Lol, that is good to know...

Bruce Lee in his last years alive, created Jeet Kune Do, this is the most Unconformist Martial Art created, its all about being Unnaturally Natural, and in the end is all about being completely Individualistic and Free in a sense..

But Bruce wasn't born like this, he had to learn, basics and such, yes he was a natural at it, show him a movement once and he mastered it the next day, not many like this, but he was super intense, dedicated and committed, and via that he learned the basics really quick and moved on!

So beginning stages of any new learning or exploration, in a way you have to be a Conformist, have to learn, become Wise, and once Wise You become Non Conformist, totally independent and Individualized! This is a good path, you learn and experience both and are not stuck in a box at anytime for very long!
