Did AITA (am I the asshole) Reddit reveal gender bias?

9 posts in this topic

There is a popular subreddit called “amItheasshole” where users discuss their actions and other users vote YTA (you’re the asshole) or NTA (not the asshole. However some MRA’s conducted an operation where they reposted the same content but swapped genders and revealed the bias of so called liberal egalitarian redditors.

I don't doubt there is some truth to this. There's a good quote: "Society views men as disposable agents and women as precious objects" which explains this quite well.

Because men are typically seen to have more agency, they are blamed for their actions much more. While women are seen to have less agency and control over their behaviour, and therefore society sees them as less inherently responsible for their actions.

While it sucks that men are often blamed more, being treated as actually having agency is of massive benefit too. For example I expect if you conducted a similar experiment which attributed credit to positive actions, men would receive much more credit than the women would for the same actions.

Not here, because they are adopting feminist narratives, which don’t maintain sexism that’s positive to men.

Of course, but are you trying to attribute this to feminism? The comments would be even worse pre-feminism. Many redditors disavow the "liberal" label, as well, they're socialists, out and proud misandrists, they encourage murdering CEOs even. I got banned from every progressive subbredit last year for giving my opinion in one subbredit, that we should try to run a male candidate instead of Harris because of Hilarys loss, one comment. It's not liberal and they don't claim to be.

Jesus. It never ceases to amaze me how bad Reddit is.
