How to not get corrupted and be a bad person as a 18yo Burning Karma

6 posts in this topic

Currently 18, with my prospective Life Purpose ideas going into Leadership, and starting a Business.

If you follow Leo enough, you see that he constantly points out corruption, unethical, and evil behaviour in rich businesspeople, and other very successful individuals. Not everyone of them are like that but a lot of them are.

My question: What resources/videos should I watch to avoid being corrupted like all those businessmen Leo points out when I'm not doing serious spiritual work and I'm just trying to burn karma? Leo's resources on avoiding corruption seem to be more tailored for someone in the spiritual part of their life (30's) and I've got 12 years until that.

Burning through karma is a weird concept.

Karma means one's own actions. How are you gonna burn your own actions?

I get the concept of corruption. But why try to be idealistic? The whole of human civilization is a carnivorous species who's actually capable of genuine love for their prey. Some say it's "symbiotic relationships, not corruption", think about the underpaying boss who remembers your birthday. Both care and exploitation are genuine. Both feeds different needs. Cognitive Polyphasia is a real thing. Humans are capable of holding many conflicting worldviews all at the same time.

I have huge problems with how Leo postures corruption and stones people for being people. You can't avoid corruption because you are it. There's no point preaching veganism to carnivores. It's totally absurd to expect lack of corruption from humanity. They'll just find better ways to be corrupt. Sure, the previous iteration can look horrible from this vantage point. But fundamentally humans can't change being carnivores.

@ryokoBe an asshole and dont care about anyone. Burning through karma is sort of being corrupt. If you are an asshole teenager that wants to get drunk and party and vandalism you just do it. If your mom tell you to stop drinking or get kicked out you call her a retard and piss on the floor.

You kinda have to get selfishness out. I burn through my karma by doing this.

To burn through karma is to do what you want and think you are the greatest then you develop a big ego then the ego will get scared that you will lose everything and then you will lose everything. Then you will be humbled.

Once humbled you try to work through your corruptions.

IMO burning karma is to see the whole truth in what you are doing.
If you want to go party/ socialize or run your business, if you do it unconsciously it can corrupt you and you will not get those desires out since you never see truth.

Basically what you do is when you do a thing, like making money or whatever you always reflect on it and see whats true.

For example:
You will see that the way you are acting is literally ugly if you are involved in unethical business practice for example.
If you engage in materialism like buying a luxury item observe how its just a object like any other and wont make you happy.
Etc.

I don't have any resources for this. Leos videos on Karma, Integrity and Introspection maybe but i assume you have seen those.
You just need to develop introspection, care of truth and feel into things.

But don't worry too much about being ethical, life is a jungle and you will get eaten if you are not selfish enough.

Corruption occurs when you go so low that you completely loose track on what you do and why, and you become an overeactive mother fucker, unable to think properly and infecting every area of your life. The antidote is self reflection and avoid getting involved with corrupted people. Ethics is a relative thing, but the human psyche is more or less a universal thing highly dependent on the system it is part of, which can result in more or less stable minds across the board. A corrupt place will create less stable minds, which ends up causing more suffering, violence, lying, stealing and so surviving becomes even harder. Coca-cola is a multibillion dolar business that causes great harm because the food they sell creates sickness and a less stable mind. If you correct that then you're tackling the problem of corruption. I mean, you don't need to actually change Coca-Cola yourself, but you should avoid creating a company like Coca-Cola.

There are businesses that causes harm and others that don't, plain and simple. To live you can't avoid being selfish, but you can live masterfully or like a complete dumb. For example, a good way of making a living could be selling books that educates people.

This post helped me quite a lot when I was your age. It's not exactly about the same thing you're asking but I think it might still be helpful for your situation:

I don't think being a leader in business and being ethical are mutually exclusive. In fact, we need more conscious leaders. The fact that you're asking these questions shows that you care about this. In terms of resources - a lot of books on Leo's book list actually touch on these topics. I'd also think about role models - who inspires you most? Why? Are there people who have achieved similar things as you have? And if yes, what are ways you could learn more about them - about how they did it, their struggles, how they dealt with corruption.

The most important thing is probably to get clear on your Why and your purpose. What difference do you want to make in the world? How is that connected to your values? For whom do you want to make that difference? And then follow that. Might be nice to find ways to periodically bring times of quiet into your life and check back in with that vision - are you still aligned with it?

Becoming really practical, a few things that come to mind:

- build a financial foundation: focus on amassing some savings. You should always have enough liquid money on your bank account so you could go without working for at least three months. That takes away the edge of any survival stresses.

- build a social foundation (probably even more important than the money part): build a network of people who you trust and can rely on. People that inspire you, share your values, and can set you straight when you lose sight of your path. Romantic relationships can be great for that as well.

- if you have a spiritual practice, that can help as well (no need to overdo it - at 18 you have lots of time). What I've found supportive is to set an intention at every practice to be of service, and that any positive outcomes of the meditation be of benefit to all living beings - so it's not just about you. And combine it with cleaning-up work. Saves a lot of time. It's really no fun to do spiritual bypassing

- it's great to find mentors. Getting advice every now and then from people who are a little further along the path than you can be incredibly supportive. And they're not as hard to find if you go looking and ask for support. Often people are quite generous with their advice. Going to conventions, trainings, workshops, networking events are great ways to meet mentors and other like-minded people.

- and be honest. Most of all to yourself. If you are really afraid of being without money, or if you really do wanna spend a few years partying and sleeping around, allow those needs to come up and allow yourself to pursue them. You can still do it in an ethical, loving way - both to yourself and others. There is no rule in the book that says you have to hurt others to get what you want (even though you might find people trying to convince you otherwise)

- above all, trust your gut. If something doesn't feel right, even if your thoughts are convinced of it, don't do it. You know more than you think you know.
