How do psychedelics open the heart?

It always feels like a lot more energy is present in the heart chakra. Almost as if the heart melts and infinite love can be experienced through it. 

What are the underlying mechanisms? Could this be recreated in a normal state (for example with meditation, yoga, supplements?)

I think you may be more prone to Love and the heart. So when consciousness increases your main chakra (energy wheel) spins faster and more energy circulates. This may cause a cleaning of obstacles and if sufficient, a breakthrough of limits expressing through the heart.

Regarding meditation, there's a whole branch of Love and Kindness meditation in Buddhism which I find quite appealing. 

 

Having an inner temple at home, with inspiring figures and taking care of it can also be an anchor of Love at home.

 

These ones are the most useful for me, but I'm not very Love prone in my awakenings, something I'm working on. So take a moment to appreciate and be grateful for the gift you have!
