Go to Sleep

5 posts in this topic

Insomnia is a bitch of an illusion!

About going to sleep —

Do you fall asleep when you want to? Do you fall asleep at or around the same time every day/night?

Or can you only sleep when you are absolutely exhausted, drained of energy, and can't hold your head up any longer?

I fall into the second category. I am known to have fallen asleep in some of the most treacherous conditions, from Indian shared taxis to back of motorbike zooming around them. It doesn't matter where I am.

If I'm not shitfaced tired, that is, so tired that I am delerious, in an altered state of consciousness & hardly capable of doing so much as getting up to piss, I won't fall asleep. This is a problem for me because sometimes I gotta go to work and need a good night's rest, but body wants to run mile or fight bull.

Does anyone know the trick to falling asleep on command?

When I really cant sleep I put Hamtaro on. Its the most boring useless dumb show I have ever seen.

Sometimes it's the journey itself that teaches/ A lot about the destination not aware of/No matter how far/
How you go/How long it may last/Venture life, burn your dread

Have you meditated?

After years of horrible insomnia adopting a hardcore serious consistent meditation practice nearly cured me. Try this and come back if it doesn't work.

Your nervous system is jacked up, it could be physical, or there is emotional stuff that you never give yourself the chance to sit alone with, without distraction. Then you try to sleep and it all comes out, it can even be subtle, just a racing mind and feeling of unease. Or you just need to calm the fuck down in general, body awareness, mindfullness, so you can get out of fight or flight.

The fact that you need to be so delerious to sleep points to you being in constant fight or flight. Does this match your lived experience?

Yes, spot on. Thanks for the advice.
