Fitness can be pursued for yourself.

Makeup, less so. Makeup is definitionally for others.

If I exercise or jog, it's purely for myself.

What's your rationale there?

Both are about changing your appearance. What's the difference?

Fitness can be done for health, not appearance.

I exercise to keep my health up. Being fat is not healthy. Lifting weight is good for bones, muscle, heart, mood, longevity, etc.

Jogging 30 min per day reduces ass cancer risk by like 35%.

Makeup, on the other hand, poisons skin with nasty chemicals and heavy metals.

Sure, the gym can be done purely for health. So, I agree in that sense.

But the more aesthetic drivers are similar... and can be done simply because it's a personal preference.

Maybe a guy feels better when he's super jacked. And maybe a woman feels better when she's wearing make-up.

And there's usually a social element... but also an identity and emotional element too that exists.

But let's not pretend that make-up is super unhealthy and like make-up is going to murder your family just because you dislike Feminine hobbies.

@Emerald Everyone I've met is like the day is over I can finally take this shit off. I don't think they want to go sleep with stuff caked on their face.

Sure, there are those moments too when you get into more comfortable clothes.

But there's also a lot of fun in "playing dress-up".

Like especially back in my goth days, I would just do up all my goth garb and hang around the house and listen to music and feel pretty.

The style doesn't resonate with me much anymore because my tastes have changed over the years to more subtle styles, but I still occasionally like to play around with make-up and clothes and to feel elegant. No event necessary.

Calling makeup a hobby is an insult to women.

Dance, yoga, fitness -- plenty of healthy feminine hobbies.

@Emerald Have you ever put your makeup on like a clown and went out? Or to look worse? Let's not confuse dressing up with trying to look hotter. Goth woman are hot with their makeup clowns are not.  Why did you pick Goth and not clown?

Yes, I have actually.

I used to do performance art when I was in college, and there were a few times where I did my make-up like a mime in my performance art. And I would do my make-up at my apartment and walk to the college in the mime get-up.

And I have done my make-up in ways that I liked when I was a teenager that most people would not like. Though I genuinely enjoyed the look, most people would say that I looked worse than without it because it wasn't their cup of tea.

@Emerald Have you ever gone out, not in a play not on Halloween but just everyday life and put clown makeup on? Have you with Goth makeup? You cant say Goth is dressing up when its a style choice. These are big differences.

Makeup for myself is a form of artistic self expression.

Not necessary, but an privilege I have the leisure to indulge in.

I don't think about what others think of it, and I am completely content going without.

Maybe it comes down to how it is being used.

I don't cover anything, I paint my lips, outline eyes or just mascara. I use it as a tool to enhance but not mask or cover.

I look at myself as a blank canvas and go from there.

Deal with the issue now, on your terms, in your control. Or the issue will deal with you, in ways you won't appreciate, and cannot control.

@Natasha Tori MaruYou are covering a blank canvas with paint by definition of what makeup is. I dont think you can logically say I use pants as an artistic expression and I don't cover anything with them when wearing pants covers something by definition of what it is. Why cant you be a blank canvas? What is motivating you to get up and paint your face? Why cant you just stay blank? Its not nothing.

Yes, many times with goth make-up.

That used to be the way I dressed up every day for like 5+ years of my life.

My go to was to do black lipstick and winged eye-liner with harlequin details... and to wear long flowing black skirts with a black and white patterned shirt with a vest or blazer over it. Or I'd dress more like the goth lolita fashion with lots of frills and puffy skirts.

So, every day was dress-up. I wasn't casual about it. It was quite ornate.

@EmeraldThats not dressing up thats forming an identity.

My argument is you said women dont use makeup for beauty, they use it for dressing up, and you lumped your style in with dressing up. You specifically picked Goth because you thought goth made you hotter. Thats why you didnt pick clown as a style choice.

So you cant say you are dressing up, you are trying to be specifically hotter and gother as an identity choice.

If someone said dont be Goth today dress up as a clown instead you would have said 'no way, in fact I am insulted, you think I look like a clown?' That's because you weren't dressing up as a Goth you were a goth by style choice, because you thought it was beautiful. You also probably thought goth men were attractive and trying to attract them.

This is what Leo is saying when he is saying women use makeup for beauty. You wouldnt put make up on to look more retarded/less attractive for no reason. And it dosent feel good as you want to take it off when the days over. People who work out and have fit bodies dont want to take their muscles off when they go to bed, because they are uncomfortable.

A soccer player dosent put on his uniform and say I am dressing up as a soccer player. That would be dishonest he is a soccer player.

Identity is deeply intertwined with that's good for one's survival. So makeup is good for survival and then a girl also turns it into a passion, a hobby, an art, a career, and an identity. It all blends together so it feels organic and natural. So that then she can honestly claim: This is just the true ME!

If it felt like a front to her, the illusion would not be real.

Likewise, Jordan Peterson genuinely believes the shit he is selling. He lives in his own self-constructed reality bubble. So does Hitler. So does Bin Laden. So does a Zionist. So does an Incel. Etc.

Identity enmeshes itself with whatever helps its survival, like tofu soaks up any flavor it's cooked with.

Beauty and womens survival goes deep, I am learning. It goes beyond their logic into schizophrenia territory.

I think it has to do with narcissus myth. They take 5k pictures of themselves in 1 day.
