Posted March 17 There are limits of how much radiation a crew of a space ship is allowed to be exposed to in outer space in the span of their careers. One flight to mars and back would expose a crew of so much radiation that they couldn't do another trip to gain more experience let alone stay there a long time without major brake throughs in radiation shielding. There is also the problem of no gravity during the long trips and the low gravity on mars. There are solutions theoretically but actually ingeneering them would be a huge waste of resources and time as is the whole idea to begin with.

Posted March 17 (edited) Elon's Mars project is so stupid. Earth is not ecologically a lost-cause Thinking Earth is a lost-cause causes you to take resources away from actually solving the problems that exist here Any problems with Earth are far easier to solve than terraforming Mars Any colonization of Mars will require far more government regulation and bureaucracy, not Elon's libertarian fantasy Any colony of Mars will not be self-sufficient from Earth, meaning you cannot just give up on Earth We are not going to colonize Mars in time to avoid climate change Elon has aligned himself with Republicans who are actively in denial about climate change and are rolling back environmental regulations We do not know if humans can actually successfully live on Mars at all. It's certainly possible but technically unproven There is no reason to assume humans will be any more ecologically responsible / intelligent once they get to Mars. They will recreate any problems here on Earth You cannot assume humans will easily or willing give up where they currently live for Mars. If anything, humans are historically very stubborn about this. They are deeply attached to their land and culture If human consciousness disappears, this will not be the end of consciousness because consciousness is not actually something that can be destroyed Edited March 17 by aurum "Finding your reason can be so deceiving, a subliminal place. Posted March 17 (edited) The human body is simply not going to endure years of radiation and low gravity of Mars. It will take a horrible toll that will leave people crippled and broken. Mars will not be any kind of second chance for the human species to survive. If Earth fails everyone on Mars will die horrible deaths. Edited March 17 by Leo Gura You are God. You are Truth. Posted March 17 (edited) Intergalactic saviour complex. He seems to care more about creating his own world than saving the one we all know. @aurum Nice rundown. DOGE should do the cost benefit on the whole endeavour. Imagine if Trump+Musk copy pasted the “wall” and made the Great Wall of peace between Russia and Ukraine, ushering in world peace. Prob better than thrusting a phallic shaped rocket into the dark and towards a uninhabitable rock lol Edited March 17 by zazen

Why all the hate, guys? I am good gamer. Love me." Musk is so out of touch it's giga level. Edited March 17 by Leo Gura You are God. You are Truth. You are Love. You are Infinity.
