Modern Psychology is Starting to Recognize Spontaneous Awakenings

11 posts in this topic

I thought this article from Psychology Today was interesting. It seems that modern psychology is just starting to recognize a spontaneous spiritual awakening for what it is, compared to some kind of a psychological break down, which is generally how they would judge this type of experience in the past. Strange I’ve seen bits here and there suggesting that many people being treated for psychological disturbances, some of them might actually be having spiritual awakenings. Igor Kufayev suggested this.

Also I saw a video recently about supposedly real Kundalini awakenings and in it they mentioned that some people experience spontaneous Kundalini activation but often the person has no idea what is happening to them, and they think they are having some sort of a break down, hearing and seeing things that others don’t.

Reminds me in one of Leo’s vids he suggests that maybe to really know God, it would appear as someone loosing their sanity so to speak from the outside.

If you are not in love, rest is a story. Believe me. Imo, Kundalini is bs.

Maybe it is BS… I’ve never had one, so cannot really say… This is the video I was talking about though, closer to the end of it is where they compare breakdowns to it.

I do think there’s a lot of hype about it mixed in with the Yoga crowd so you now have suburban Soccer moms getting their kundalini activated while on vacation which seems to lower any validity to it. However I cannot say if its the same for true Yogis and Gurus in India?

I have never heard true yogis talks about Kundalini if it is not asked. However, they embodied the love, that's for sure. With them calmness, charity and helpfulness.

ChatGPT just gave me five ancient Tantric texts supposedly talking about Kundali and Kundali activation.

Shiva Samhita, Yoga Kundalini Upanishad, Shatchakra Nirupana, Hatha Yoga Pradipika, and Tantric Agamas and Niganas.

All of those are from 16th century or earlier. Two of these, I researched were written 1500 years before the Bible was written.  If indeed its BS… Which I doubt these forms are, then its some really ancient BS.

Problem I think is that every new spiritual fad is looking to sell you your newfangled  Kundali activation, so the BS is mixed in with truths, and it gets difficult to separate truth from fiction.

I am glad that western psychology is now gaining more insights on this subject.

Meher Baba used to travel all around the world visiting psychiatric hospitals for finding masts and properly rehabilitating them. He carefully distinguishes the mast state from madness and explains that in the case of the mad person, the mind is sped up, while in the case of the mast it is slowed down.

He considered masts to be spiritually developed people who had become spellbound by inner spiritual experiences and ecstasies and hence found to hard to operate and function normally in the material world. Consequently, to the casual observer, they would look mad even though they were actually harmless and highly sensitive people .

Meher Baba taught that the mast properly rehabilitated would continue in their spiritual path and would be of inward service to humanity.

That link you posted is very interesting! Thanks for posting it… What do you think is meant by “Mast”?
Is that short for Master? Master of realization of God?

An another informative article on spontaneous awakenings by psychologist Jessica Corneille.

https://therapytips.org/interviews/what-happens-when-you-have-a-spontaneous-spiritual-experience

Quote

In contrast, these experiences are typically pathologized by default within mainstream clinical settings, due to their overlaps with the symptoms of certain psychopathologies, such as bipolar disorder and schizophrenia – a presumption exacerbated by a lack of scientific data on SSAs, their characteristics, well-being implications, and general occurrence within widespread populations.

While there may occasionally be similarities between both sets of experiences, both anecdotal and existing scientific evidence suggest that these experiences can occur independently, void of the presence of a mental health disorder, and often lead to significant improvements in mental and physical well-being, enhanced pro-social and pro-environmental behaviors, and decreased risks of developing psychopathological tendencies.

Kundalini isn't b.s. it is an extreme change in the flow of your energetic flow in your body. It helps prepare the body for expanded states of consciousness.

So it's not b.s. it just isn't God Realization.

You are a selfless LACK OF APPEARANCE, that CONSTRUCTS AN APPEARANCE. But that appearance can disappear and reappear and we call that change, we call it time, we call it space, we call it distance, we call distinctness, we call it other. But notice...this appearance, is a SELF. A SELF IS A CONSTRUCTION!!!

So if you want to know the TRUTH OF THE CONSTRUCTION. Just deconstruct the construction!!!! No point in playing these mind games!!! No point in creating needless complexity!!! The truth of what you are is a BLANK!!!! A selfless awareness....then that means there is NO OTHER, and everything you have ever perceived was JUST AN APPEARANCE, A MIRAGE, AN ILLUSION, IMAGINARY.

Everything that appears....appears out of a lack of appearance/void/no-thing, non-sense (can't be sensed because there is nothing to sense). That is what you are, and what arises...is made of that. So nonexistence, arises/creates existence. And thus everything is solved.
