  1. Yes. If you have everything, you have nothing.
  2. @onacloudynight If you say you don't care about anything, you do care. What were you studying?
  3. "Competition is a Sin" John D Rockefeller. "To sin is to miss the target." Jordan Peterson Tortoise and the Hare. Aesop Fables. Why would the tortoise compete, it does what it does and yet it succeeds. Why do clothing stores locate in the same area and not block all the other clothing stores?
  4. "The moment you measure you are insufficient." J Krishnamurti
  5. @Joseph Maynor Listening to the "Power of Now" just 3 hours in, but in my opinion it is much better than the works on stoicism I have listened to. I wonder if there is anything better than the Power of Now which I rate as excellent, I think Nietzsche's and Carl Jung's work are pretty good as well though. Must be some pinnacle of Intellectual thought, I haven't read Heidegger, but I think "Being and Time" might be worth looking at.
  6. I couldn't resist... Additional Dialogue. Borg Queen: Do you always talk this much? Lieutenant Commander Data: Not always, but often. Borg Queen: Why do you insist on utilizing this primitive linguistic communication? Your android brain is capable of so much more. Lieutenant Commander Data: Have you forgotten? I'm endeavoring to become more human. Borg Queen: Human! We used to be exactly like them. Flawed. Weak. Organic. But we evolved to include the synthetic. Now we use both to attain perfection. Your goal should be the same as ours. Lieutenant Commander Data: Believing oneself to be perfect is often the sign of a delusional mind. Borg Queen: Small words from a small being, trying to attack what it doesn't understand. I do wonder if there are any good books on perhaps making the unconscious more conscious. Whether there are pro and cons to a potential of higher consciousness and how to even get there. So much information out there. Anyone read any books on Wim Hof? fishing for the best up to date concentrated information, found a book called "The Lucifer Principle" looking to fillet the best information of books on the unconscious mind, through experts or general publicists.
  7. An opinion wrong by what standard, because you say so?
  8. @Weltschmerz Sounds like the Predator Movies, "Get to the Chopper!" or "You can't see the eyes of the demon until he come a calling". I think it might be part of some personalities to have a sense of something not quite right "You don't know what it is, but it's there...like a splinter in you're mind, driving you mad." Perhaps a bit like Descartes evil demon argument. Probably something to do with various elements of the unconscious mind bleeding through to the conscious, imho. What to do with such a situation no idea, nothing to see here carry on I guess.
  9. All sounds like the Illuminati ending from the PC game Deus Ex...."Boxes stacked one in another".. .1st Ending.
  10. The best metaphysical explanation for non-duality I've heard of is "Leibnizian Monadology" (only looked superficially at it). Maybe someone is familiar with other (correct?) premises?
  11. SALARINO Why, I am sure, if he forfeit, thou wilt not take his flesh: what's that good for? SHYLOCK To bait fish withal: if it will feed nothing else, it will feed my revenge. He hath disgraced me, and hindered me half a million; laughed at my losses, mocked at my gains, scorned my nation, thwarted my bargains, cooled my friends, heated mine enemies; and what's his reason? I am a Jew. Hath not a Jew eyes? hath not a Jew hands, organs, dimensions, senses, affections, passions? fed with the same food, hurt with the same weapons, subject to the same diseases, healed by the same means, warmed and cooled by the same winter and summer, as a Christian is? If you prick us, do we not bleed? if you tickle us, do we not laugh? if you poison us, do we not die? and if you wrong us, shall we not revenge? If we are like you in the rest, we will resemble you in that. If a Jew wrong a Christian, what is his humility? Revenge. If a Christian wrong a Jew, what should his sufferance be by Christian example? Why, revenge. The villany you teach me, I will execute, and it shall go hard but I will better the instruction. What if there were no response from a subject? Probably be corpse. But as there is a response how is it best managed? What would it mean to forfeit responsibility or to say forfeit suffering?
  12. If there is no "I/you"(Locality?) to have freewill, there is no I to be predetermined either. "No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it's not the same river and he's not the same man."- Heraclitus. Having quoted that, if there were something for a man to take, what should it be through life in general?
  13. In its basest form, wouldn't exploitation be cannibalism? "And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed" Proverbs 5:11/ Doom II Perhaps being addicted to or encouraging people to become addicted to something maybe far worse than slavery. Effectively destroying their soul and your own. I mean with slavery the slaves are an asset to the slave-owner. Their fortunes are bound. With a wage aren't you effectively taking a calculated bet that the market productivity will be in excess of the wage. Heard that in India when Oxfam campaigned to ban Child Labour, many children ended up in prostitution.
  14. Nietzsche called the Stoics "Self-deceivers". From listening to Marcus Aurelius Meditations and some of Seneca. They draw a contrast between themselves and the rest of society, probably not fully realising the significance and being unaware, in this sense they are perhaps the ultimate egotists. I wonder how something like the "Power of Now"(Which I haven't read) would contrast with stoicism or perhaps Schopenhauer(lot of obsolete scientific theories in "World as Will and Representation").
  15. @Empty Don't know much about Morocco, but doesn't the King effectively control the drug trade there. I think the Americans have a military presence in Morocco, so I'd imagine any revolt would be dealt with by any means necessary. I guess there's still some French and Spanish colonials in political or business management positions. I heard that the leather/tanning industry is quite large. Enlightenment to me, is something if possible would be purely individualistic. If you care for the people what can you do to help? Out of curiosity, do you know what the Nomadic Berber people are like, living in such a harsh environment wouldn't they be people worth talking to? Different worlds....
  16. I can't complain but sometimes I still do. - Joe Walsh, "Life's been good"
  17. Do other animals have an ego? To have transcended the ego(if such a thing is possible), would that mean that concepts such as being ruled, submitting, resisting are no longer valid? Perhaps ego is destructive as a kind of multiplier affect, a Mexican wave. What is good for one, is not good for all, what is bad for one, is bad for all.
  18. Thank you very much, makes me think of the Francis Bacon quote "Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested". I agree with the demonic forces within a persons own psyche, an apriori knowledge. Why feel you have to respond to so many posts? I remember listening to an essay by Carl Jung on youtube, about the use of masks to avoid being absorbed into the collective unconscious, perhaps through ego. Maybe like many celebrities, "You are not your job" Fight Club. I've been thinking about the function stack for personality types. Intuition being like "use the force" or "Zen" an unconscious process. INTP ex Intuiton, in Thinking.
  19. Maybe you're lonely. Could you recommend any particular works by Carl Jung or similar teachers? I think that "Modern Man in search a soul," "Man and his symbols", "The Undiscovered Self" are excellent books. "I want to exist from my own force, like the sun which gives light and does not suck light." Carl Jung
  20. @Ryan_047 Couldn't you make a job? Do some painting or staining and get to meet people in the community, maybe talk to them a bit about what they like(the whole make friends and influence people thing) and then get some career ideas. Wax on, Wax off... @egoeimai Join the club Looking at volunteering or backpacking again myself, things really suck in Europe.
  21. Provide value to other people.
  22. @Annetta Why is Hope Evil?
  23. “‎The struggle of maturity is to recover the seriousness of a child at play.” ― Friedrich Nietzsche
