  1. @Arkandeus Wow thanks dude, I really started to get insight into the magic of being during and after my retreat. I understand what you mean about him occupying his own reality and mirroring. I knew that this was the case but I was just worried about messing up my practice. Now I understand that most meditation practices are basically different ways of accomplishing the same thing, just being. I got a taste of what you are talking about this weekend, when I got back from my retreat I indulged in some food and the internet for a few hours and afterwards I still felt hollow. However, when I was finished I sat down for a few minutes to be mindful and I felt much better. The present moment is full and complete as long as you are mindful enough to acknowledge it. Thanks man! Good luck with your practice!
  2. @spicy_pickles perfect! start with 1 minute sitting every day
  3. @Salaam bro its a void...there's nothing there...good luck trying to grasp it at will
  4. You can't do this...it's too extreme...you need to be more methodical and strategic (focusing on one thing at a time)...however you have the right idea though...
  5. Nice! Good for you! I'm going on a 5 day retreat this weekend and I always feel so overwhelmed when I come back to the internet
  6. @Afonso weed definitely has some potential for spiritual insights but I smoked weed everyday for a year and if you smoke recreationally you are definitely doing more harm than good. Also, weed causes a lot of brain fog that will restrict your ability to clearly and accurately break down your sensory field which is a very important aspect of spirituality. Buddhist 5 Precepts Refrain from Killing/harming living beings Refrain from stealing Refrain from wrong sex (cheating) Refrain from harmful speech (lying, gossiping, insults etc.) Refrain from using alcohol and drugs that cause heedlessness My meditation teacher told me not to smoke weed or drink alcohol because it changes the way your mind works and can cause obstacles for you as you continue to meditate... When I asked him about psychedelics he said that the mind may become lost in delusion My teacher knows a lot about Buddhist teaching and vipassana meditation but it is important to use your own judgement about things...his opinion is shared by many others though and it is worth taking into account. Ever since I quit weed my meditation has been clearer so I naturally associate weed with the opposite of growth
  7. @2000 Read: Mastering the Core Teachings of the Buddha When I experienced the dark night I felt just like you are feelings...it is a sign of progress...don't stop meditating or you may get stuck feeling like trash forever!
  8. "Enter their minds, and you’ll find the judges you’re so afraid of – and how judiciously they judge themselves." - Marcus Aurelius This one is sooooooo powerful to me whenever I worry about what other people think of me...this quote is seared into my brain and I might get it tatooed one day
  9. @Jonson you're going to die very soon...enjoy your life in the moment while you can but don't spend too much time clinging to sensations. The Buddha teaches us that Everything changes, nothing is permanent Sensations don't satisfy you Sensations are not you I love my life too and I wish it would never end. But it will end and that's what makes it special. Spend your time in the moment just being Your post is very upbringing compared to people talking about how they hate their life. Good for you! Life is beautiful
  10. @nexusoflife Are you suggesting that the world should be some other way than how it already is? You're right my friend. Shit is fucked up and that's exactly the way it should be because that's the way it is. You have the audacity to tell yourself that the way things SHOULD BE SOME OTHER WAY THAN HOW THEY ARE?? Why be depressed by the way things ARE? THATS HOW IT IS NOW SUCK IT UP AND LEAVE IT AT THAT. Don't let it depress you, that's weak, stop wallowing in your hatred for humanity. Sorry for the harsh tone but shit needs to be said Edit: Noticed how I'm saying that you SHOULD not worry about how the world SHOULD be...just trying to help
  11. @Anirban657 Learn how to reframe situations to the funny side. I've always been very good at doing this, humour is one of my top strengths. https://www.actualized.org/articles/how-to-be-funny Not sure how to link videos but watch this.
  12. @The White Belt Hey man, it's inspiring to hear that you're working on an LP. I don't think that the LP is causing the intrusive thoughts but it may be triggering them to arise like you said... I think that your guilty feelings may have to do with your OCD... Honestly dude, I don't think that there's any one specific fix for your problem. Keep doing self-help and eventually your psyche will mature enough that your issue will become a non-issue. Also, your feelings of resistance seem very vague which may be a sign that you're Upper Limiting yourself. There's so many aspects of self-help that will make you feel better including Gay Hendricks' "The Big Leap". There are definitely hundreds of books that I haven't read that help you with your exact problem...the only tip I can give is keep doing self help and don't force yourself to work on your LP too relentlessly, you need to make compromises with your resistance. Also...keep meditating...never stop...try increasing your time from 20 to 30 minutes...mindfulness with labelling works for me
  13. @Spiral Try buying a book like "The Big Leap" by Gay Hendricks. In there he has many questions that you can contemplate that will definitely help you get a little closer to your life purpose. Basically, I think that you can derive parts of your life purpose through contemplating but you will need some guidance in the form of specialized questions that you can find in books/ Leo's Life purpose course.
  14. Hey guys, the yoyo effect is basically a period of success followed by a period of laziness that almost undoes the success...I've been struggling against this homeostasis for a while now and I feel like it's a very common phenomenon for all people who are self actualizing...does anyone else have this problem? How do YOU deal with homeostasis? some things that have worked for me when I'm feeling lazy are - cold shower - workout - go outside what do you think about the yoyo problem?
  15. Hello @Scarwolf ! Video games are definitely a big time waster and are made to be addicting...If I were you I would delete all my games and probably unplug my computer...I was addicted to league of legends for a while and I played about 2000 hours...quitting is a gradual process but I think that some radical action is also necessary. DELETE ALL YOUR GAMES. If you want to quit video games what's the point of having games on your computer? Go COLD TURKEY and if it doesn't work do it again and again and again and again. That worked for me, I still play video games occasionally but I only play about 1-2 hours a week now (with my brother) after many cold-turkey attempts. Deleting games works for me and I hope it works for you too.
  16. @Nahm I really like the balloon analogy, I also think you're right about the learning new things to change your perspective...it's also important to do mindfulness practice so that eventually you will be more aware of your backsliding in the present moment and you can use these insights to backslide less
  17. @ChimpBrain wow, I feel the same way. @S33K3R is right, I think that it is the natural state of our being. What I've learned from vipassana is that if you keep practicing mindfulness, you will eventually not be phased about your backsliding and you won't guilt yourself like we usually tend to do. Paradoxically, I think that being indifferent to your backsliding through mindfulness makes you backslide less...just an idea...
  18. hey! thanks for sharing, I loved this talk takeaway: shoot for the moon, even if you miss, you'll land among the stars
  19. Buy it...the price is about the price of two books, but you get audio reviews of hundreds of books
