  1. After a literal coup attempt and Republicans openly abandoning democracy we have every reason to be paranoid
  2. I had an experience during a solo retreat in the Rocky Mountains in 2020. After a long day of meditation I decided to spend a little time sitting on the balcony before bed. Being in the mountains and away from civilization I thought it would be a good opportunity to do some star gazing. I looked up and saw several balls of light whizzing through the sky. My first impression was that they were meteors. That quickly didn't check out because they began making all sorts of erratic movements. It was almost as if they were putting on a "dance" just for me. I smiled and was grateful for the experience but began to get a little spooked out so I went back inside and layed down with all of my lights on for the rest of night. My second experience was a home and within the last year. I decided to take my dog out on the back porch as I usually do at night. I sat on my chair and saw a light in the distance being completely still in the sky. I looked for strobe lights but didn't see any. I stared at the object for several more minutes and then it "dematerialized". It was as if it just faded out of existence. It was a completely clear night as well. I've seen planes disappear from view on cloudy days so this wasn't that. One thing that stood out to me as I reflect on these experiences is my state of consciousness during the time. I was extremly calm immediately before the experience. My state of mind was crystal clear and at peace. In fact the moments prior to these sightings had an almost magical & mystical feeling to them. Hard to describe.
  3. https://www.reddit.com/r/technology/comments/utes3n/spacex_paid_250000_to_a_flight_attendant_who/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share https://www.latimes.com/business/story/2022-03-25/black-tesla-employees-fremont-plant-racism-california-lawsuit There are some pretty dusturbing and aerious trends with Elon Musk and his companies. I never saw him as a genuinely good person and things like this only validates it for me. Its amazing how many people worship this guy.
  4. That was my response too. This is so completely irresponsible.
  5. Not ungrateful. I think a lot of it stems from us being a lot more individualistic and disconnected from community. When you're in poorer country, you may not have luxeries but you do have each other and very strong social network.
  6. Of course most aren't fascist but that really doesn't mean much if most are willing to vote for a fascist to begin with. If the average conservative sees fascism as a vehicle to get what he/she wants (i.e an abortion ban) then they'll use it.
  7. I don't think India will be able to navigate through the climate crisis. Its going to leave some part uninhabitable and strain food supply. This is a disaster for an already impoverished country with a billion people. Also nationalism is bad and almost always leads to bad outcomes.
  8. He was removed and rightfully so. Its astonishing that it took a literal coup attempt to do it.
  9. I guess you forgot about how Trump used Twitter to incite the Jan 6th insurrection.
  10. I can't believe how many people think this will be a good idea. I think this will be a net negative for society in general. It will only exacerbate divisions in society and further proliferate the spread of misinformation. Perhaps I'll be humbly surprised.
  11. Its tragic indeed. It will be looked at as a HUGE missed opportunity years from now. If Republicans take back Congress and the presidency thereafter, we can pretty much assume nothing will get done concerning climate change. And at some point its going to hit us all like a ton of bricks that it is indeed a real crisis. We won't just know it intellectually, we'll know it viscerally as well. And people will be afraid and angry.
  12. If Elon took over the forum this place would turn into a cesspool of misogny and racism. Unfortunately it seems those who always complain about free speech and censorship just want a 'safe space' to espouse their hateful and conspiratorial views. Its also baffling how so many people think Elon is an arbiter of free speech given his track record stifling free speech in his own companies and personal life.
  13. I don't understand how a person can listen (and presumably absorb) a 4-part conscious politics series and still be 'extremely' right wing biased.
  14. Replace Joe Biden with Trump and this post would start to make a lot more sense. On a side note This country seems to be following the same cyclical pattern it has for years now. 1. Republicans screw things up 2. A large enough margin of people have a brief moment of clarity and vote them out 3. A Democrat comes in and tries to fix things, but is handicapped by the Senate (whether it be from obstructionists in the GOP or Corporate Democrats (i.e Moderate Republicans)) 4. People complain about the lack of progress and attribute every problem caused by the previous Republican administration on Democrats 5. Republicans take power again and screw things up so bad people vote them out again Rinse, repeat
  15. There is a difference between the internal issues within CNN and the nature of the content it reports on. CNN as a news source has far more integrity than Fox News or any mainstream right wing outlet.
  16. I am talking about how we organized ourselves much further back in time. Many forager groups had no designated absolute leader and everything was equally shared. That isn't to say life wasn't hard because it was. However, if a member of the tribe/group became too boastful and prideful, they would be ostracized and shamed. There is even evidence to suggest some early more complex societies weren't repressive, had no central leadership, and therefore no absolute ruling psychopath to control everyone. Over time we organized ourselves into less egalitarian societies and have mostly forgotten that its possible to organize ourselves in any other way. My overall point is that psychopaths aren't required to maintain a complex society and move it forward. We ultimately have a collective choice to choose how we want to organize ourselves. I think this is something we have forgotten as a collective. There is nothing set in stone that says humans must have an absolute leader at the helm to progress.
  17. I disagree. For hundreds of thousands of years humans organized their societies in a way that kept sociopaths and psychopaths in check. And we did just fine. Psychopaths holding positions of power is a relatively new and unique phenomenon relative to the amount of time humans have organized themselves on this planet. It is my opinion that our current civilization incentivizes psychopaths and in some ways necessitates their existence. And look at where it has brought us. Yes, we have advance technology but the suffering of humanity and all the living beings we share the planet with is immense. And we're actually on the precipice of destroying all of it.
  18. Imagine how much effort and practice was put in preparation for this performance.
  19. I want to one day obtain mastery in something but I am tethered to the idea that its useless if I am not able to make money from it at some point. I've attempted to take on hobbies in the past but gave them up prematurely because of this. Does anyone experience this? How did you work past it and learn how to enjoy mastering something for the sake of it?
  20. First off I know you're coming from an honest place but it isn't up to you decide what one considers offensive or not. OP has the right to feel offended and voice his concern even if Leo's usage of the word was taken out of context. If I were to say something offensive towards any other group it would be incredibly arrogant for me to dictate how they should feel about. Especially if I don't share their unique experience. With that said I understand Leo's use of the word and its good to see he later apologized. Unfortunately we still live in a society where the wounds of the past and present haven't been completely healed. We still live in a highly racialized world where entire groups of humans have collective trauma. And we have to deeply understand and appreciate this about one another. Its the first step in realizing a world in which the educational use of such offensive words aren't perceived as such.
  21. I wanted to share this gem because it contains a message that is more pertinent than ever. It is a long video but it is so worth it. I've personally been dealing with a sense of growing despair concerning our predicament as a species. This video served as a reminder that we must first and foremost go back into 'being'. Peace, Compassion and Love is the key to solving the ecological crisis. Once we, as a species begin to generate these three we can begin to recontextualize our predicament and create meaningful solutions to our problems. I hope this video finds you all well.
  22. I thought this was a pretty powerful video summarizing the recent rise of American fascism. I am very concerned about the future of this country and think there is a pretty decent chance we'll see more political violence in the coming years.
  23. Its hard to see how this will play out. Republicans are making a huge mistake thinking they can disenfranchise large segments of the population and still maintain any semblance of peace. Its creating the conditions for some very bad things to happen.
  24. Here is a very good detailed video debunking the lies in his recent podcast with Dr. Malone. Its disturbing how easily misinformation (dangerous misinfo at that) can be disseminated these days. And its completely irresponsible for Joe Rogan to platform someone like this without any real push back.
