  1. Hey guys, since I'm trying to quit playing video games all day long I'm looking for a good replacement. I've heard of the playing an instrument as having great benefits. Does some of you have experience with it? Or are there any other advices for replacement? Since I've played hours daily things like exercising won't fit, because one simply cann not work out for hours (if you don't have the intention to be a body builder). I'm kinda astonished of the plausible explanation for nofap, so maybe I'll try this in some point. Beside all the great habits which were already mentioned I recommend learing, since it gives me joy. Further I've heard of writing a list of things, events or persons you are thankful on a daily base to be huge. I think Tal-Ben Shahar tells about it, even tho there are probably many more. Actually I recommend to learn and apply some wisdom from him, because he talks about happiness, which we all are actually striving for Last but not least being in nature is great. I really like to take a walk (and listen to a self help audio book).
  2. Hey folks, since I need to learn spanish for college I'm curious about learning it fast. I don't like wasting time but I like learning vocabulary by repetition only even less. So lets get to the point: There are several techniques and advices on how to learn a language fast(er) and I'd like to know if you have any experience with them or maybe even other videos or tipps for learning a language. I'll just put here some links of some Ted talks I have in my mind: And I'm particularly interessted in this one by Tim Ferris: Because I won't be able to live in a spanish speaking country for the next year at least, I'm espacially interested in those tipps, which dont require me to go in such a country. Advices for holiday jobs in spain are welcome too I'm looking forward to your answers, enjoy your day
  3. As far as a I understood enlightenment it doesn't mean you won't care if someone of your family died. You won't be totally emotionless! But you notice your emotions and thoughts as just experiences of life, which they are. Enlightenment gives you the awareness so you'll notice "oh I feel sad because this person died", but you are aware that this is just a thought which creates sorrow. Since enlightenment is mostly about living in the now you maybe won't even have that thought. To me your whole story sounds like you just can have eighter enlightenment or life purpose, which isn't nescessarily the case. When you are pursuing your life purpose you are most likely to fully engaging in this particular action. You'll maybe feel something like a "runners high" and I think this is somehow the closest we can describe the feeling of living in the now, or in other words enlightenment. I hope that helps you a little, even tho I'm neighter enlightened or have found my life purpose yet. My advice is that you should keep your meditation habit up, because it even offers adventages besides getting enlightend eventually, and go for whatever you feel to be important and interessting for you. Eventually you'll notice after some time, maybe months or even decades, that even though you thought this might be important to you, you feel that you are lacking something somehow. Or maybe things go worse and worse and you will suffer so much, that you start to looking for something else. This will be the time to reaching for enlightenment.
  4. I've listened to the audio book and if the content is the truth it's absolutly huge. I think affirmations and visualizations try to use the subconsious mind and somehow this shows evidence the subconcious mind might be helpful to use. I'm really interested if someone knows some studys about this, since i'm a quite scientific thinker. But even if this book might be coated (hopefully this adjectiv fits) it suggests that we are capable of more than we think.
  5. Thank you, they are really helping me I heavily recommend this book, or more accurat the test! It feels like a journey inside myself. It feels like I'm getting to know myself a little deeper, which is an awesome feeling especially since I struggel a lot with the questions around "who am I?". Furthermore I just had a sudden realizsation when i read about my futuristic theme. It's a while ago, but when I had my girlfriend I thought a lot about our common future. Somehow I didn't understand that she didn't. I just thought that one automaticly thinks about the common future with a loved one. The point is, just a moment ago, I thought what if not everyone is thinking ahead? Maybe it doesn't mean the person doesn't want this to last, but just doesn't think about it. Can you guys understand what I'm talking about or does it just sound like I'm wanting back my ex?
  6. Hey mate, I don't know if I can help you, but I'll try At first I know the feeling of getting nervous around people, particularly those I don't know for a while or those I'm attracted to. The difference is, that I wouldn't consider myself a very sociable person, so I think of it as a self-confidence problem for me. Maybe it's some sort of that for you too, since you seem to be a little uncertain in general (yet ;)). I do appreciate action and this seems to be the first step tho. Do you think of football as your life purpose? I'm struggeling myself a lot to find my life purpose, so I'm not sure if this helps you, but I think of it as something which pulls you toward it. So you are excited about doing it and pursuing it. For how long did you meditate? Did you meditate daily? In this case installing it as a habit will help a lot i think. There are a lot of great videos by Brian Johnson regarding this topic as well as some ted talks. Maybe they'll help out to set it up. Further I want you to know that "failing" is normal. In the beginning we're excited about the new project and the benefits it will bring to us, but quite soon we have to face that they don't come overnight. It's not important to not fail, actually this is impossible, but it's important to know why you failed and working on it the next time. For example i do have meditation habit as well. I'm used to meditate before I go to bed, but last week a friend of mine were drinking some beer and didn't meditate that day. So I thought about it, why I didn't or more accurate how I could fix it the next time. In this case I'll just meditate the nexte time before he arrives. If you are interessted why you fall back into old patterns, Leo has a great video which explains it. Just watch here:
  7. Hey guys, I'd really like to know your experience and opinions about the "strengthsfinder" by Tom Rath. I made the test like a week ago and since then I realized that my talents which are offered to me aren't taken out of nowhere. I'm a person, who struggles to be accurate in telling my strengths, so I find this book to be helpful. I really hope you'll understand anything i'm talking about, because it feels as my english sucks at the moment Further I'm a person who rather gets more knowledge than making sure to apply this i already have. But even that fits somehow into my talents as the books suggets. Just in case you are curious my strengths are: 1. learner 2. intellection 3. futuristic 4. ideation 5. strategic Furthermore I don't know how to apply those strenghts in my daily life. Maybe you have any recommendations for using those strengths or have to share your experience
  8. Even though there have been some great suggestions i'd like to add something too. I've heard most of the suggestions given, yet i'm procrastinating. I guess my problem is focusing on too many changes at once, which might be a problem for you too. My suggestion is to set rewards. One evening i was procrastinating, which I'm pretty familiar with. Suddenly two friends of mine asked if i'd like to hang out in around 10 minutes and i've said ofc. Actually the following 10 minutes were the most productive on that day. Further, since already mentioned, I recomment to build a habit and use rewards to build it. Start small, like 5 minutes a day. The important thing is, that you do it daily. Watch out for something you do by habit anyway and make it your trigger. For example brushing your teeth or exercising. Like mentioned reward yourself with small rewards after each session, middle rewards after a week and something you are excited about after a month. Keep that process for at least 1 month, otherwise it won't become a habit. Last but not least I have 2 (audio)books i can recomment you, which empower to take action and have further advise. The first one is "100 ways to motivate yourself by steve chandler" and the second one is "Time Warrior by steve chandler". Hopefully this might help you
