6 months withouth work but Company still pays me

8 posts in this topic

I´m still employed by my company, and I get paid a salary each month like any other employee.

Yet, it's been 6 months now, that I haven't been assigned a project to work on.

My is a tech consultancy, and I work in the software development area.

In this +6 months of no work, All I´ve done its earn a tech cert (that took me about 2 months), doing 1 hour of English class a week, and now I´m supposed to be learning to a new cert but im losing motivation. Because last time I asked them about if I should take the exam, they said "no hurries, when you are ready".

This is my first tech job (first 11 months I did work on a project from the start that I started in the job), so I don't know how weird or normal this is, but I think this is pretty rare.

The company is big, it has offices in several countries around the world. Over 7500 employees.

Am I going to get fired? Or should I just chill? How rare this is to happen? Or they just don't care since they make so much money?¿

Are you physically at the office or do you work from home? Any meetings?

@universe from home.

No meetings.

I used to have them when I worked on a project last year.

The only communication I have is with the head of Human Resources though Google Chat lol

How do you feel about this company and this line of work? Are you passionate about this or is it more of a means to pay bills?

The company? I love it lol, I couldn't imagined a better job in this industry... even when I was working on a project it was pretty chill

I'm not passionate about it, but it's a comfortable way to pay bills. I do not want to start looking for jobs with better career and paying opportunities because in the future I want to make a living of something very different from what I´m doing now.

no, I was just curious. Because the situation you are in puts you in a very fortunate position. You are getting paid well and not being asked to provide work in exchange...that's perfect. Use that time and that income to start paving your future. If you; 're saying you want to do something different in the future, this is the best opportunity you'll ever have in your life to do that. It usually takes 2-5 years to change careers and up to 10 years to match your previous salary (depending on seniority in the previous career) so the earlier you start working on it, the faster you'll get there.

You're young, without kids (I'm assuming) and without major obligations. Make the most of it. Your situation may change, and before you know it you may get made redundant and lose the benefit of free money or get a bunch of projects loaded on your table.

I'm not sure what it means in your world but better start figuring it out. Fingers crossed !
