I'm pretty sure that there was either some advanced technology or highly evolved beings. They are just way too massive and geometrically accurate.

The idea that they were built as tombs for leaders is also kind of silly. To build something like that, with or without advanced technology, would require some serious inspiration. I'm talking something divine. Imagine for a moment what it would take today even to get enough people to agree that something like that would be worth the time and energy. And then actually manage to get it done.
