Difference Between "do Nothing" & "strong Determination Sitting"

3 posts in this topic

Hey guys??,

i practise the "do nothing" and the "stromg determination sitting" for a while now, and i have been wondering what the difference between them is, bc at both of them you just control your body and let your thoughts wander of.

The Strong Determination Sitting technique is mostly about not moving under any circumstances, which will introduce a sensory challenge – facing this challenge head on with concentration, sensory clarity, equanimity and high awareness for the duration of the sit is the aim here.

The Do Nothing technique is about not manipulating your thoughts – it is sometimes called “just sitting” (no brain manipulation either there) or “choiceless awareness” (don’t try to focus your attention on x or y, instead don’t make any choices at all, and just have awareness of what is happening in the present moment right now)

SDS = no voluntary movement.  Either for x amount of time or as long as you can handle. Says nothing about technique: you can do do nothing, self-inquiry, noting, etc.

DN = no manipulation of attention (if you notice an intention to control your attention, drop that intention).
