money is desired because it let's your purchase experiences

5 posts in this topic

money let's you enjoy and engage in all experiences and for the most part, karma free in a certain sense.

without money, one would go steal food/clothes - karma. will get caught/arrested/punished for it.

with money, you can go and buy as much food/clothes your money allows you to, without one bit of a worry or karma... yes, the food you eat has the bodily karma so better watch out there.

but that's money for ya

we seek experiences, grand, fun, as much as we like, and without having to worry about it or have it limited in any way. money is that ultimate currency in this realm... but there's a currency which trumps even money itself... it is the end result, it is the goal, the reason for wanting to experience something...

we have strong desire to want to experience something because we want to get rid of the wanting to desire for it... we can do this in 2 ways. seek out and end up having that experience OR drop the desire for it directly. use a thorn to remove the thorn you've been pricked by and then discard them both.

both methods lead you back to the center - peace - a state of desirelessness.

this is that end goal. the highest currency. the ultimate desire - desirelessness... something which can never be taken away from you because it is what you are. be who you are.

Desirelessness is such bollocks, I'm sorry.

Desire is literally your life force, without the desire to breathe, eat and drink you'd be dead.

Peace isn't having no desires, true peace is being conscious of your true nature & abiding as that, no matter what you are doing, often this needs a period of retreat or the 'inward' path but eventually, the quote on quote 'goal' should be to abide as this peace and happiness no matter what you choose to do with your life.

Awakening doesn't mean you have to sit in your room forever and do nothing, although you can if you want.

Desire just evolves from being in the search of happiness, love and peace, to becoming the expression of these things, you are absolutely free to do whatever you want, from a place of love, truth and understanding- including earning a shit tonne of money, consciously of course;)

I feel the mistranslated Buddha quote of 'Desire is the cause of suffering' has done more harm than good, it's a big issue when translating such intricate teachings between languages in which there is no direct translation for these words. It has made people believe desires are bad, instead of allowing them to liberate their desires from the separate self, to become an expression of this understanding, and live the life of your dreams, from love.

The best way to express it is found in the Kabbalah- Desire for the self alone will never lead to satisfaction, but the desire for the self, in order to share, creates an unlimited ability to love and experience deeper and a never ending zest for life.

Look at billionaires who only want more and more for themselves, they are never satisfied, compared to billionaires/ Millionaires coming from a more conscious place and desiring to share and spread love and happiness, those that give the most (not just in monetary terms) are always the happiest!

But, this of course doesn't mean you create resistance around receiving, it just means you become in tune with the circle of life, you receive not just for yourself, but for the sake of sharing and celebrating this beautiful thing we call life, with other beings, always, for nature is always doing this, or we wouldn't be breathing right now!

I would say evolve your desires, and get in touch with the natural cycle of life, instead of working against it like so many of us do, then you will always have more abundance than you could ever dream of ;)

agreed. the concept or idea of it certainly is.

you cannot choose to do or or be desireless

because YOU are DESIRELESSNESSS itself. it's another name for you.

it is being centered in your very being, each moment. and the rest of it gets taken of automatically and more magically than ever before. like a flower grows, so does your body. you will eat, drink and breath as needed when centered in your being. much better than before even :)

the center of the hurricane is calm, still, unmoving and peaceful and it accomplishes the whole of the system just perfectly

Good points, I prefer the translation Craving rather than Desire because it has the sense of addiction. Ajahn Chah said something similar, that desire in itself doesn't cause suffering (dukkha), but desire mixed with ignorance and/or fear. Ie ignorance of our true nature, fear from identifying as a separate ego. The 3 fires need to be taken together, not separately.
