Right to repair, devilry and corruption in lawmaking

2 posts in this topic

Hello people!

In the last few months there has been debates about passing a certain bill about "right to repair". This would define who would have the right to repair certain devices. The fiasco behind this was probably all started when Apple started suing individual repair shops when they started replacing non-commercially replacable batteries, posting this option as dangerous, which is just a false wording to put people on their sides with fearmongering.
The big question is: Who owns the right to a physical products' alteration and repair after purchase? It seems almost obvious that it should be the customer, but big corporations are now posing a threat to this statement.

A few cases where pros and cons can be made for right to repair:
-Electronic products: Can phone and laptop buyers repair or alter their own products, or bring them to individual repair shops OR do they have to bring them in to a certain qualified repair shop?

-Motorical products: Do farmers have the right to repair their own equipment after purchase or does it all have to be made in certain qualified repair shops?

-Schematics: Do companies owe us, the customers the schematics of our products after we purchase them (this was the regular case not long ago)

My personal fear in this case, that if big companies win via lobbying, they will make themselves in a more monopolistic situation, where you can only turn a certain equipment in to a single brand of shops, this way they can easily manipulate prices of both repair and their product parts.

That is definitely their goal.

Once you have a monopoly you can jack up prices without fear of losing customers. That's the gameplan of every giant business.

You are God. You are Truth. You are Love. You are Infinity.
