Spiral dynamics levels of Discipline

4 posts in this topic

I feel like discipline has levels that can be measured (loosely) by spiral dynamics lense. The starter level is about waking up early and grinding my ass which would be stage blue or orange, I did this in my 20s where I would plan the entire day and try to squeeze my time the most, people used to tell me I was extremely disciplined.

As I matured I've started to treat it very differently.

Now at 31, my schedules are extremely flexible and I try to do whatever I want as much as possible.

I still live a healthy life because I have high goals but I don't stress nearly as much as before, for example: I eat mostly healthy but If I want to eat fast food or drink some wine at any time I do it without remorse.  I no longer use daily, weekly or monthly planners, what for if I already know what I want to achieve this week?

I feel more disciplined now than before because I achieve my goals and when I must work extra hours I force myself to do it. But in general I try to enjoy my day as much as possible.

I feel like I have reached the Yellow level of discipline where I don't push myself too much but I am able to grind if needed.

Or maybe I became lazy and I am just biased, but my new lifestyle feels much better and long term oriented than before

What are your thoughts?

What does discipline mean?

It's your ability to do hard things, things you are not comfortable with.

Eg: any type of work that is hard for us

Who decides what the disciplines are?
