I'm not sure where this idea is coming from, but I disagree.

Anonymity makes you less personable. You have to just about overcompensate to overcome that, which isn't realistic to expect of people.

I don't know if we are disagreeing.  Even a Zoom call would be better than complete anonymity. I'm not suggesting anyone do a Zoom call, but that is an example.
