what helped you to grow on youtube?

Okay so I want to talk a little bit about youtube. First of all I will give my secrets away, for me the best way to grow is to use someone famous in a niche and have some drama about them or involve them in a subject. This is working well to get maybe 1k to 4k views. Especially when I edit it well and work on the thumbnail etc. Now what has helped you to grow on youtube? and what are some things that helped you to get more reach? I am curious to hear. Even if you are in a different niche then me, I think I can still learn from you and also the other people on this forum.

I make travel vlogs. It’s not easy at all. Every place has been visited before. It’s challenging to be original. I don’t think it’s necessarily so easy to put out consistently original and excellent content in huge volumes. It’s possible to either put out more shallow shit often or better content but it takes more time, energy, etc.

So I am one person and I have to balance my other responsibilities while making videos. 

In order to grow on YouTube you need to produce decent content people wanna watch. Your videos need to be both good and hold people’s attention + be consistent in output since the platform is driven by frequent production of new videos. You usually don’t make one video then have a successful channel with a million subs.

You need to put out lots and lots of videos. Therefore you need a system for your content in order to make it sustainable. As a single person you can put out weekly videos but they will usually be shallow and not very good if you are producing one a week. Because you only have one week’s worth of time to make it. If you are publishing once a month you have more time to produce the video and refine it but you are not keeping up with the algorithm.

The big channels either A) earned the right to publish infrequently by having built up a core audience over the years posting frequently or B) still post frequently but have a whole production team that is able to bridge the gap between algorithm and quality. 

I do travel vlogs which is largely a passion thing. It’s one of the harder niches to consistently publish in and it’s difficult to sustain frequent travel. I’m not sure if it’s viable for the long term financially but there are views in it and hopefully a way to meet like minded people.

I'm not great at Youtube but my most viewed video got 100K views in 24 hours when I posted it on the league of legends subreddit and got me the 400 subscribers I have overnight. So my recommendation would be similar to yours but to use other platforms and distribution channels to push your content as solely relying on the Youtube algorithm for growth is like canoeing across the ocean.

What niche are you in?

To be honest, a lot of YouTube is about finding what has gone viral recently. Look for outliers. Find channels where one video or title massively outperformed the rest. For example, if a channel usually gets around 1,000 views but one video gets 50,000, that's worth studying. Then recreate that idea or make a better version of it, and do the same with the thumbnail; copy the title/topic. VIDIq is a cool extension for finding these "outlier" videos. You can see here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CvaITrXKwQ Editing is also worth investing in, whether that's learning the style yourself by recreating these kinds of videos or hiring a good editor. Retention is huge, especially the hook.

That said, it heavily depends on your goals. If you're trying to sell something, for example, it's often better to have a smaller audience that's highly aligned with your niche than to go viral just for the sake of going viral.

@Xonas Pitfall oh yes that is a good idea, looking at outliers from 1k to 50k is definitely a good one. I think I should look more at the smaller channels then, because the bigger channels can go very viral but also their data isn't really valuable if you have a smaller channel. Yes I feel editing is something I am still learning, I think people also enjoy clips, like in streams. It kind of is the streamer area right now, so I am thinking of making more videos that almost are stream like, but then edited and still within my niche. Is that your channel btw?

@Lyubov thank you for explaining, I think yeah that quality is valuable although what is quality right? Like something attention grabbing can still not be interesting as something that people seem to be interested in, but the video isn't super well edited, they still seem to watch. Example would be for example news about politics. People seem to be interested in it and they watch it even if it isn't that well edited. Also I have seen videos with the craziest editing I have seen and get very few views. I was listening to mrbeast and he was talking about the purple cow effect, which is that you do something different than everyone else and that makes you go viral. That is quite an interesting way to see it. For example, "Eckhart Tolle will run for president" HAHAHA I would instantly watch. Of course then also you have to deliver on that video title, so it doesn't become clickbait. So for my latest videos I have been trying to be as original and sometimes I have to think an hour before coming up with a title or thumbnail. Also I have seen some people blow up without editing at all which always blow my mind, like what the hell are these people doing, it doesn't even seem they have a strategy.

how to have videos posted on subreddits? I mean do i do it myself or ? idk i hate posting on reddit
