CT scan

5 posts in this topic

I have a CT scan coming up for damage within my ear drum. I’ve had poor hearing for years now and have gotten used to it. However I have since decided I want to do something about it but in order to move forward they will need to do a CT scan to provide a 3D image of the problem area

Given the concerns raised around CT scans I’m now not sure if I want to go ahead. It’s particularly because they will be doing the scan around my head to get a good look in the ear canal. I had a CT scan on my leg last year after breaking it. I was fine with that but it’s just that this is around a sensitive area

Any thoughts?

What is the point? There is no cure for ear damage.

The CT scan can show the damage but then no one will be able to fix it.

Before you get the scan, ask the doctors what cures exist to fix the damage found in the scan.

CT Scans are one of those diagnostics that you wouldn't go get willy-nilly. I would consider how necessary a scan like that is prior to pumping myself full of radiation. There's a trade-off.

That brain dude, what's his name? Daniel Amen? Heavily advocates for his 'SPECT' scans to look at 'brain health', without really acknowledging the radiation exposure.

Overall diagnostics need to be looked at critically, as the risk of exposure (in the case of radiation) needs to be weighted against the potential benefit of the procedure. Same shit with meds etc.

Is the cost of radiation exposure worth the potential information you may obtain regarding your ear drum? What are the chances there are inconclusive results etc?

It is far easier to fool someone, than to convince them they have been fooled.

Also, ask your doctor if an MRI or x-ray can be used instead. MRI and x-ray are much healthier.

Get an explanation for why the CT is needed over an MRI or x-ray.

CT scans are really important despite the radiation trouble. It will give the doctors a thorough idea about the problem.
