How social media marketing hypnotizes you

5 posts in this topic

Look at the quick cuts, the exaggerated hand gestures, the theatrical movements and display of the product. This is refined down to a science now, how to catch your attention and keep it there, even if it's something as simple as a t-shirt.

And of course, the obviously fake but effective "honest influencer" format (establishing rapport), the appeal to "every celebrity" (not just "a" or a few celebrities) while probably using AI generated images intermixed with real ones, and of course using top 1% models to pitch the product (and rehearsed sales phrases like "not one, not two, not three, not four, but four"; wut? — the confusion adds to the dazzlement by loading your working memory, on top of it already embodying the prior high-speed and theatrical cinematics), your focus is being sucked down a black hole approaching the event horizon.

His eyes looks full dead inside tho 😅

Notice also how he is stepping forward toward to camera with every cut/shirt change. Movement like that, and with the hand gestures... Movement detection is a huge part of the brains compute power if I recall right. Tunnels attention.

He doesn't mention fabric, sourcing etc. that fabric looks like it would feel like total shit on.

Capitalism gone mental. Sort of like how capitalism is bleeding into the dating market. Everything is a goods exchange. It's fucked. Relationships are about value now, forget about CoNnEcTiON. I'm a doomer lol

It is far easier to fool someone, than to convince them they have been fooled.

Somehow it adds to the effect. The monotone voice too. Gotta keep it calm and hypnotizing as a baseline. The dopamine hacking does the rest.

Have you seen the videos that use a slow zoom in and out with every cut? That shit sucks you in, literally. Like dangling a clock infront of your face.

Reminds me of a white gym t-shirt I used only once because it had zero breatheability. My back became a pool, then cold. Maybe their's breathes, idk.

Slopitalism. The currency is attention, the less actual value (not commercial) the better.

Noone is forcing people to watch those clips and to scroll, just like noone is forcing people to be so transactional while dating. And all the other shit yall keep pinpointing about capitalism. It's all just human nature and human tendencies. You are not doomer enough if you don't recognize this. And it's not all bad either, I am personally not ambitious at all and I couldn't give a shit about putting in work into anything to get something, if that something takes way too much work, luck and social manipulation to get. I am a proponent of aiming to be satisfied with yourself even if life can feel miserable at times, and just do the enjoyable shit, but you see people have varying levels of ambition and care about all sorts of shit I can never bring myself to care about at all. However, despite that we all benefit from ambitious people like that existing, in various ways. I don't really buy all this shit that people are inherently good and just got corrupted by capitalism or whatever

@NewKidOnTheBlock it is a force upon them. Thats why they pay big money to have them see it. If there was no force being applied advertisements dont mean anything. They have been forced on my since I was a baby. Your entire identity is forced on you by tv and advertisements. You dont even know its happening.
