On what grounds were you free to leave after five months?

The court's order.

It hugely depends what kind and degree of awakening we are talking about. Heavy kasina practice always causes hallucinations (although controlled) . The Buddha must've done some kasina too.

High enough dose of Vipassana too.

Specificially after you've already had fruitions weird shit is going to happen.

Even something as low level as an OBE can get you a diagnosis.

Just trip and come down? Sure, that won't get you a diagnosis.

My brother called them out of spite.

Daniel Ingram has probably had more hallucinations than me. The only reason he doesn't end up in a psych ward is that he surrounds himself with understanding people.

Why not the next day? Why not a week?

I think my parents smeared me to someone who gave them information about "my mental state". I have no idea how this works internally.

How many times were you given a reevaluation of your state and whether you could leave or had to stay for longer?

I was talking to a psychiatrist every week, but no formal reevaluation as far as I know.

Maybe once when a judge advocate came.

So you got committed by somebody who thought you were acting inappropriately (but it was actually also out of spite), then you get a diagnosis of schizophrenia based on an assessment of your symptoms (but it was actually illegitimate/inaccurate), then when you were talking to a psychiatrist every week, it took 5 months for them to think you might be fit to leave (which was actually due to somebody smearing you from behind the scenes for 5 months)? I don't know, either you're really unlucky, or you might not be giving the most accurate portrayal of your situation.
