Belief systems

I understand the point you made, but when you use the word think, do you mean thinking in the rational way? because that's what I usually refere when I say "thinking"
Believing is not a rational process,
instead of "we think we know"
I would say something like "we imagine we know" or "we create an unreal story and take it as true"

What do you consider to be true?

Start there.

A great deal, if not most, of what comes to mind in response is likely to be belief.

Contrast that with a first-hand, personal experience of the reality of something.

Remeber that mhe mind has many tricks to fool itself!

I think not that many people recognize the untrue nature of their beliefs, primarily because they are useful to them.

Recognizing that the beliefs you hold as true, are not true, leaves you nowhere. Can you stand being nowhere?

Definitely, it's like undressing, leaving yourself naked, with nothing to hold on to. This can feel quite uncomfortable and vulnerable.

We find solace in our beliefs. And thank God. :D

@PolyPeter You may enjoy a lot of Peter Ralston (if you have not already heard of him).

His delivery is forceful, emotive, passionate and earnest. Candid. Some cannot get past that. But if you can, he has a lot to say about beliefs.

It is an asset to be able to make a distinction between a truth and a belief. Regardless, both are an asset/have use. In my opinion :)

It is far easier to fool someone, than to convince them they have been fooled.

A long time ago i read the words "believing is not enough, we must know". Everything changed from that moment on.

I am but a reflection... a mirror... of you... of me... in a cosmic dance ~ of a unified mystery...
