"We have seen the statement by Nato Secretary-General Mr Mark Rutte regarding a purported phone conversation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Vladimir Putin. The statement is factually incorrect and entirely baseless. At no point has Prime Minister Modi spoken with President Putin in the manner suggested. No such conversation has taken place," the official statement released by MEA said.

Urging Rutte to exercise caution, India said it hoped that the Nato chief would be more responsible with his public statements.

"We expect the leadership of an important institution like Nato to exercise greater responsibility and accuracy in public statements. Speculative or careless remarks that misrepresent the Prime Minister’s engagements or suggest conversations that never occurred are unacceptable," the MEA stressed.

Sadly India already covered this in its own news:

India is allying itself with Russia, it is not a neutral party.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday signed into federal law a major military cooperation agreement with India, formalising a pact that had been cleared earlier this month by both chambers of the Russian parliament, according to the Kremlin chancery.

As per news agency PTI, the agreement, officially known as the Reciprocal Exchange of Logistics Support (RELOS), was ratified by the State Duma, the lower house of parliament, on December 2, followed by approval from the Federation Council, the upper house, on December 8.

After parliamentary clearance, the document was sent to the president for final approval, completing Russia's domestic legislative process.

KEY PROVISIONS OF THE AGREEMENT

The RELOS agreement sets out procedures governing the movement of military formations, warships and military aircraft between Russia and India, as well as the arrangements for providing logistical support to each other's forces.

According to the explanatory note prepared by the Russian Cabinet of Ministers, the agreement is designed to regulate not only the dispatch of troops and military equipment, but also the logistics associated with such deployments. This includes support services that may be required when forces from either country operate on the other's territory.

The established framework is intended to be applied during joint military exercises and training activities, as well as in situations involving humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations. The agreement also allows for its provisions to be used in other scenarios, subject to mutual consent by both sides.

In a note published on the State Duma's official website, the Russian Cabinet of Ministers said the ratification of the agreement would facilitate the mutual use of airspace by Russian and Indian military aircraft. It also stated provisions related to port calls by warships of both countries, which are expected to become procedurally simpler under the new framework.

The cabinet also noted that the pact will contribute to strengthening military cooperation between Russia and India.

Despite the presidential signing, the agreement will enter into force only after the formal exchange of instruments of ratification between Russia and India. This step is required to complete the legal process on both sides and make the pact operational.

Its no different to any other larger power; its picked a side.

The one thing I respect about Russia/China more than India is that it's not pretending to do one thing while doing another.

India is a “swing” country. Given the cards they are dealt it would not be advantageous for them to align with either Russia or the USA entirely.

India is the world's largest democracy and a member of the non-aligned movement, which had been created in 1961 to prevent the conditions for world war 3.

The two world wars which originated in europe came up on the basis of opposing military alliances. The two wars  killed over a hundred million and created heavy losses of property and life in europe .

Military historians have stated that the two world wars originated due to poor diplomacy and negotiations between the belligerent military alliances in europe and was potentially largely preventable by wise statesmanship.

Seeing that conditions for a third world war was arising, India, Indonesia,Egypt, Ghana, Yugoslavia and other countries created the non-aligned movement so as to create a dispassionate space of neutrality for reducing tensions between the military blocs.

Though India is the world's largest democracy, it came to confrontation with western powers and western military alliances over Goa liberation, Bangladesh war and so on , and in the process developed a good relationship ironically with the Russians who supported the Indian position.

So it is ironic that the world's largest democracy was supported by the so-called dictatorial and evil Russians rather than the western so-called champions of democracy and was ignored by the latter.

Now that India has emerged as both the fourth largest economic and military power on earth, the western  so-called champions of democracy have suddenly realized that India is also the world's largest democracy and strongly argues that democractic India should be in its alliances and not the Russian, and wants India to forget its past friendly relationship with Russia !

Talk about historical amnesia and attitude ! :D

However India is true to its position in the non-aligned movement and wants to use this position to reduce friction between the western bloc and russia-china bloc and prevent a global nuclear war between them. A third world war originating again in europe will not serve the purpose of humanity.
